Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Wilson.
Hi Anita, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ Jeremiah 29:11
My ingenuity to design, creating original art and craft from the core of my being, started early from my childhood in Ghana, West Africa where I was born and raised. After high school (Mfantisman Girls Secondary School), I attended a trade school (St Anne’s) to learn how to sew. Soon after I graduated, I was motivated and with the support of my parents, I became a small business owner in Fashion designing and Decor at 21 years old.
I moved to NYC in 2001, where I had my son Michael, adjusting to a new environment, culture, juggling with family and making career changes. I enrolled in Bronx Community College then to Mercy College where I ended my Bachelor’s in Health Science. I had my second son William in 2009, divorced, then moved to Maryland.
With major events and changes in my life, making a career change as a Massage Therapist, I didn’t lose sight of my dreams in designing arts and craft.
My boys and I moved to Georgia in 2015, where I began to be intentional with the blueprints in my dreams and vision on my business.
Over the years I became yearning for more; fascinated with a high sense of fashion and design, enabled me to channel my innate skills to self-taught in event designing, festive balloon décor & ribbons and floral arrangements just to mention a few.
For over 15 years, friends and family have trusted me in creating a masterpiece on some of their most important life events such as; wedding planning from start to finish, event hall decorating of bridal showers, engagement proposals, birthday, baby shower and graduation parties and many more.
I turned my vision and passion into reality; what is known as Just One of my Favorite Things LLC. Since the inception of my business, I continued to advance and developed my skills by training with The Institute of Wedding and Event Design (IWED) Deerfield Beach FL where I achieved my Certification as a Wedding Designer.
A collective hands-on experience over the years, coupled with training with IWED has equipped me to recently launch the opening of Just One Of My Favorite Things LLC.
I continue to pursue my vision with more advanced courses in the Wedding and Event industry currently with International Association of Professions Career College (IPA) and IWED.
As I continue to thrive in my career goals, I continue to serve my community and leave a legacy.
I know one thing for sure; I was born for this. I do it at my best, and continue to make clients satisfied by making their dreams come true.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth, there has been a lot of times where I felt stuck. How do I make that jump to pursue my dreams, how I started it all in Ghana. The challenges in hindsight were my motivation for wanting more in my life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
This is my blueprint in reality. I love everything I do in my work. My skills and specialty are in Floral arrangements, Drapery Backdrop, Ballon Decor and Seasonal Decor. I specialize in Wedding and Event designing, Marriage proposal Set up, Birthdays, Graduation, Baby Shower.
