Check Out Jade Gibbs’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Gibbs.

Hi Jade, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Jade Ann Gibbs, owner & creator of Ann’s Closet. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, now based in Atlanta, Georgia, I spend most of my time creating original crochet garments, patterns and tutorials to inspire other crocheters explore the world of crocheting clothing. As a child, I spent tons of time with my grandmother Ann Gibbs, learning how to crochet & knit. When she passed in 2020, I wanted to do something to memorialize her. That inspired me to create Anns Closet. I am immensely grateful to have learned such an amazing skill from such an amazing woman & I am honored to be able to spend my time learning more and more about this craft each day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I came to Atlanta in the middle of the pandemic in 2020 with no job & no plan. I started creating TikToks in my spare time showcasing my work & through hard work and dedication, I was able to create a crochet community that wanted to see more from me. They supported me and encouraged me to push further, learn more and monetize my talents. Thankfully that community I build has grown beyond my expectations and I have been able to support myself with my art.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a crochet designer. I make crochet clothing and also teach other crocheters how to crochet and how to make my designs. I create and sell my crochet patterns and also upload tutorials on youtube for all difficulty levels, ranging from beginner to expert. I am most proud of my ability to continue and share the skill that my grandmother taught me at 10 years old. I wish she was alive today to see how I’ve taken it to new levels and applied it to today’s world of social media.
