Rising Stars: Meet Vienna (V.Rose) Da Re

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vienna (V.Rose) Da Re.

Hi Vienna (V.Rose), so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Vienna Rose Da Re I go by the stage-name V. Rose. I was born and raised in Sacramento, California where I began singing in my church’s choir at age four. I grew up listening to and loving Gospel music and I began writing my own songs at age eight. I got my first job working for a local fast food restaurant at 15 selling tacos to pay for studio time and garnered the attention of some local management and record labels. I went on to sign three separate record deals in my early career over the course of a decade. My music has taken me to over 15 countries around the world so far including some of my favorite places like: Israel, South Africa, Australia and Trinidad and Tobago to name a few.

I broke away from my last record deal in 2018 and began my independent journey once again after spending 15 years being under contracted deals. I dropped my very first independent album titled, “Forth” in the fall of 2019 and It became the most beloved album I have made to date with songs like, “I Surrender’ and ‘At My Worst’ showing out and taking flight in the streaming world. I really proved to myself that all I have is all I need and I’m grateful looking back that God helped me face the uncertainty I felt about going it alone in this industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My experience has been that no roads are smooth, lol. I am the only girl of 7 children. I like to say I was raised with wolves but only joking because my brothers are my best friends in the world and we have all been through quite a lot. Raised in the church my parents divorced when I was 6 and I quickly turned to music as an outlet to deal with the pain I didn’t know how to otherwise express. I knew as a child that I would be doing exactly what I do now making music everyday but I didn’t skate by or escape concerted efforts to keep my name and music out of the Christian music industry being told that my music was, “too cool” or that it didn’t fit the mold, as hard as that might be to believe.

I was pushed to the point of a mental break at age 26 when I realized that I was doing everything but what I loved and for everyone else’s reasons but my own and seemingly getting nowhere that felt safe.

With a long journey to a healthy state of mind, I took a step back and began to write music for myself again, getting back to the way It all began for me, in my bedroom, alone.

About a year later I did a tour with a local band from Canada which paid me $100 a night barely covering gas. I slept in my van throughout the tour and saved up enough to buy my own studio gear which I then used to write, record and post-produce my fourth studio album but my first indie album titled, “Forth”. I bartered with a friend for the mix and master and had no money left for marketing so I put all I had in the hands of God and asked Him to bless it because it literally was my last.

Not only financially but I really pushed myself to face my fears making music by myself again all these years later. About a year after the album released, a song from the album began to go viral on Tik-Tok shooting my streams through the roof, introducing me to listeners in Brazil who seemingly had never heard of me, according to Spotify insights, where they began to share and help my music grow in a matter of months. I couldn’t believe I had made my first song to every stream a million. Be sure to check out, ‘I Surrender” off of my latest album, ‘Forth’ to hear what all the hype is about. The album, the song and the journey changed everything for me and I’m still climbing today! God is faithful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer songwriter and full time musical-artist. I specialize in R&B music and really I specialize in the story telling aspect of Rhythm and Blues where I can express myself and talk about my trauma or life’s lessons and how I overcome.

I am well known in the Christian music industry for the years I have contributed in making music and also for the work I have put in helping develop many other upcoming artists in the same industry. Most people will say they first heard about me from the song, ‘Surrender’, that I featured on with an artist named, ‘FLAME’, (@FLAME314 on Instagram). Now however, I am gaining listeners from all around the world at a pace my music career has never seen before and that happened when I dropped a song from my last album, “Forth”. The song is ironically almost the same name as the song that, “put me on”, so to speak, and this song is titled, “I Surrender”. It is a tribute to the popular Gospel song, “All To Jesus (I Surrender)” where I also wrote my own verses. A lot of people don’t know that this song changed my life. It has surpassed 3 Million streams between Apple Music and Spotify alone and I have never had a song take off like this before. And to have done it as soon as I made my first indie album is mind blowing an extremely humbling to me.

I released the album late 2019 and then the pandemic hit in 2020 and I had given my last to make that album. The response and how many people loved it and woke up everyday and listened to it literally helped me survive financially through the toughest part of the pandemic. It gave me so much hope for the future and I truly feel as though I have, “made it”, having had this kind of experience coming up as an artist. I am truly blessed and I give all glory to God.

I’m most proud of my why. I made a list of all the reasons I make music and the main one is that I know I have been purposed here to be a songwriter. Not just that but a voice, unique to me and one that matters to God. I’m proud to make music that encourages people in many ways and in the most important way, and to me that is to point them to a relationship with Jesus. I know I would not be in my right mind or maybe even alive today without this relationship that literally saved my life and so I have to share that journey in hopes that someone else will know there is help for their heart and rest for their soul.

What sets me apart from others is my voice. I have this agreement that I made with myself and my creativity to only do what comes naturally and if I feel like, “that’s just not me”, then I abandon it. Implementing this has allowed me to be more daring in my lyrical approach and style and I have found that it has helped me soar in my originality as a singer/songwriter. I realized that no one else has my story and not to run from that but learn to heal and live to tell the it.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people don’t know that I am also a graphic designer, (@PennedbyV on Instagram), and creative director. I dabble in a lot of different things actually. I creative directed my last music video, (Better Things To Do). I also edited the video along with doing the special effects. I made the cover art using a selfie picture I took with my iPhone 11. I love doing behind the scenes work just as much as the front line work.

Many people may also not know that I own and run a boutique record label called Indie West Music Group, (@IndieWestMG on Instagram), where I scout and sign artist to develop and educate in hopes that I can pass on some of what I have learned to help other talented artist to get on like I did.
