Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Hernandez.
Hi Leslie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Since growing up I was always had a passion for art cause in art you can express yourself there’s no rules and when I hit to high school I got introduced to make up these beautiful girls walking through the halls with fabulous skin and their eye makeup was amazing because growing up in Hispanic family your parents well my parents didn’t really allow you to wear makeup growing up until I was 15 why 15 you ask because in our culture when you turn 15 you become a woman. So my 15 hits and that was my first time seeing myself with make up I felt so different. My makeup artist made me feel really beautiful and I’ve never seen myself more beautiful and that also expire me because I love what she did and I also want to do that in the future make other women feel beautiful and confidence. So after high school I went to the Aveda Institute I graduated in 2019 and I went to studio crush graduated in 2020 these schools made me who I am today I can style hair apply makeup I can do it all. And now I’m officially a freelance makeup artist when I’m not freelancing I’m at icon Studio where we do photo shoots from models I love doing photo shoots because I could get creative with the makeup and that’s when my love for art comes in playing with different colors shapes. I’m not just any kind of makeup artist I’m a creative makeup artist. I feel like where I’m supposed to be this is my career is what I love to do and I appreciate for everybody that believed in me especially my parents and my brother they’re the ones that keep me going all the love and support that they showed me it’s incredible have the best family and one day I want to give them something and return I know I’m not I’m not quite up there yet my dream is to be a celebrity makeup artist but I know slowly I am getting their little by little. I guess it is true when they say if you put your mind to it you will succeed.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say a smooth but I did have some bumps along the way not really gonna go much into detail but I would be sad some nights struggling with financials and I would ask myself why does anybody not wanna to book with me I will keep doubting myself like maybe I’m not good enough for this industry maybe people are right shouldn’t be in this industry because I want to start from the top and life isn’t like that my father always told me everybody had to start from the bottom at some point just to get to the top when you’re going through those phases in your life they will be challenging and he’s right The reason why I wanted to just be on top you know starting off it’s because my father is my best supporter he has done so much for me to be in this industry and I really want to repay him so bad so he can be proud of me but he is proud of me no matter what I do in my life he says he’s always gonna be there supporting me no matter that was the best feeling.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do a little bit of everything I do graphics liner I can play around with the shaves and the colors amazing. I can honestly say that I do the best eyeliner wing and it’s fast because a lot of people when I give them a wing Debbie soap surprise cause I do it really fast and quick and easy and they’re just so amaze that I could do it fast and perfect. But I love doing glam makeup.

For my hair would like to thank Aveda Institute they gave me the number in the skills and the tools. For makeup Studio crash I highly recommend these schools are amazing the teachers the mentors they really know what they’re doing and really want you to succeed.
