Conversations with Darius Dinero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Dinero.

Hi Darius, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a kid, I always loved watching movies & skits. My favorite shows were The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air & Kenan & Kel. I loved how watching those shows would make me laugh and sometimes put me in a better mood altogether. Then Youtube came out & I was immediately hooked on watching people like Soulja Boy. I thought it was so cool that he had all these people watching his videos he was making from home.

One Christmas my grandma bought me my first camera, it was a Disney channel camera. I used that camera every week for a long time. I began slowly teaching myself how to edit and my Moms big old-school computer. Eventually, I began posting videos which were usually remakes of shows or fake movie trailers. A few years went by and I never really stopped posting on my channel but I wasn’t making it my priority because I was still a kid. I remember sending my videos to the Icarly website hoping they would feature me on a future episode.

In High School, I began to create somewhat of a buzz around my name from posting my version of random challenges on Twitter. I had a few videos go viral & get a lot of retweets. I remember my freshman year of High School I posted a parody song music video on youtube that went crazy overnight. It only got about 1,000 views overnight but those views all came from my school so everybody had seen it. I got a lot of good feedback & even my coach told me it was funny. The summer after graduation is when I went viral again with a video I made with Ayo & Teo. It gained me a few thousand followers & that’s when I first felt like I could really be an influencer. I had a few viral videos on Twitter my freshman year of college but nothing on Youtube yet. At the time I was posting NBA 2K videos hoping to be a famous gamer.

After moving back home to continue college at the local university, I started taking Youtube serious. I was making interview videos around campus & doing random challenges. Eventually, I made a few skits on some upcoming rappers and the videos did really good. This is when I figured out my lane, I began focusing on skits and got to around 30K subscribers leading up to my senior year in college. There was nothing more I wanted then to blow up in the skit community but it was tough. I was barely getting 1k views with 30k subscribers. I wanted more for myself because I knew I was talented. My little sister told me to use Tik Tok because she said my content was perfect for the app. Eventually, I had a few viral Tik Toks & gained around 300K followers. My Youtube was still steady until I posted a video called “When Your Mom Goes Through Your Search History”. This video ended up blowing up a month after it was posted. I promised myself I wouldn’t let my next buzz die down so I began posting 3+ times a day every day my last semester of college. During that semester I gained 300k+ subscribers on Youtube. Since then I have continued to learn & build my audience to what it is today, I have been a full-time influencer since the end of 2021 & I plan to begin an acting career in the near future.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have had countless obstacles & challenges on this journey. A lot of people don’t know I have a Bachelor’s in Cyber Security. My last semester of college I took the max amount of credits while working a full-time job so I could live in my own space. I needed this space to reach my full potential with Youtube. It was hard to post every day with everything I had going on but I managed to graduate. By the end of the semester, I did well enough to where I was able to leave my job & live my dream as a full-time content creator.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a full-time content creator who goes by the name Darius Dinero. I am known for my creative comedy skits that I post on Youtube/Tik Tok/Instagram. A lot of people know me from my Black Air Force activity skits. I am most proud of the fact that I have built up an audience to where I am able to post any kind of skit I want. I am not limited to one genre. This allows me to be as creative as I want. I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic & the way I think. I don’t take failure the same way as most people. If something doesn’t go as planned, I don’t give up. I keep trying & trying until I figure out how to make it happen. This is why I was able to keep trying on Youtube for over four years with not much success until the 5th year. Most people would have given up on the dream. I believe people like my videos because I’m able to come up with creative ideas that are sometimes extreme. I believe I will always be able to come up with video ideas.
