Meet John Dixon

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Dixon.

Hi John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been told, ever since I could walk and talk… I was entertaining people. I knew that I had a passion for the arts and entertainment early on when my brother and I would recreate scenes from our favorite movies for anyone in the neighborhood who would have the patience to watch. I was instilled with a passion for spreading love with art and I learned my love for the classic movies, theatre, and music from my Mother (Mary Dixon), my Father (Claude Dixon) and my Brother (Justin Dixon).

When I was in 3rd grade, I remember writing Notorious B.I.G. Lyrics down while I was at the playground and switching the words around and adding my own to create my own raps. Little did I know then, I was just plagiarizing Biggie’s lyrics lol… but I had a passion that I wanted to perform and create. So I did.

Throughout Grade school and High school, I continued to follow my passion here and there by doing plays or making my own music and selling CD’s in the hallways between classes. I didn’t realize it then but I was honing my craft for the years to come.

I didn’t really take acting serious until college. When I found out that I could take an acting class in college… that pretty much sealed my fate in the acting and entertaining business for me!

From then on, I decided to take that passion and turn it into a career and learn as much as I could about the craft of acting and the business behind it!

I am now proud to say I am a working actor in my hometown Atlanta, GA!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The acting and entertainment business is a road built on rejection… so there are always a lot of obstacles to overcome. I like to compare this business to a rollercoaster… lots of highs and lots of lows that can and usually do, happen in the blink of an eye.

However, I remind myself every day that I am doing what I love. It is a gift that I am fortunate enough to follow my passion. So when challenges do arise, they never seem insurmountable to the big picture… spreading love with the art of acting.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Actor and Entertainer in television, movies, commercials, and stage plays.

I am most recently known for my work in Spectrum’s show ‘Long Slow Exhale’ as the police officer, Tyler Perry’s ‘The Haves and Have Nots’ as the recurring secret service driver season 5, and Joe Kenda’s ‘Homicide Hunter’ as Eric English season 9, episode 16.

I have two feature films about to release (TBD) ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by Ted Johnson playing the character Phil and ‘An Awful Thing Has Gone and Happened’ by Deborah and Christopher Mitchell playing the character Augustus.

I still have several commercials airing, one being a Parker’s Kitchen commercial and I am gearing up to act another play.

What sets me apart from the others is my work ethic. A quick and professional turnaround on all my audition tapes.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Be kind. The value of patience goes a long way and read all of the directions!
