Today we’d like to introduce you to Denia Durden.
Hi Denia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always knew I wanted to be a hairstylist. I learned how to braid at the age of seven and I braided everyone’s hair that would sit long enough as well as my own hair regularly (I got in trouble often for playing in my hair lol). I enrolled in Cosmetology School at Dekalb Technical College (now Ga Piedmont Technical College) and before I started the course, my sister who had been diagnosed with Lupus lost all of her hair. As much as I enjoyed doing hair, this moment made me realize my vision was much deeper. I started to research hair loss and stumbled across Trichology. I knew I wanted to complete cosmetology school first, but I also wanted to study Trichology. I focused on building my clientele after school and in 2019, I enrolled in The American Academy of Hair and Scalp Diseases to obtain my Trichology certification. I never gave up on the vision. Now I not only help women feel beautiful with their natural hair, I also educate and inspire them to live a healthier lifestyle through beauty. Hair is supposed to grow, but imbalances in the body can prevent that from happening and can cause hair loss. This is my 10th year in the beauty industry, but just the beginning for the Nia Sade’ brand.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was always afraid of public speaking, but over the years I started presenting at events and webinars and have continued to grow and be more confident in myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Master Cosmetologist and Certified Trichologist, I care about the whole person and how lifestyle habits impact what shows up on the scalp and in the hair. At Salon Nia Sade’ Beauty and Hair Loss, I inspire women to live a healthier lifestyle through beauty.
I am most proud of seeing the vision for Nia Sade’ come true. I have had the LLC for Nia Sade’ since 2018 but knew that I wanted the brand to represent something special to touch people. When I decided to move into a salon suite in 2020 and I was deciding on the name of the salon/clinic I knew Salon Nia Sade’ Beauty and Hair Loss was perfect.
I truly care and build relationships with my clients. No matter how much education I already have I continue to study to become a better business owner, cosmetologist and trichologist.
How do you define success?
Success to me is making an impact in someone else’s life. I feel that my purpose is being fulfilled by sharing information and educating women who sit in my chair or follow me on social media. I think that even if only one thing I share about beauty or hair loss touches someone and helps them, I’m doing what I’m supposed to do.
I also would define success as the generation after me being able to see an example of someone who followed their dreams and no matter what obstacles I faced, I continued to push forward.
