Today we’d like to introduce you to Franchika.
Hi Franchika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a Chicago Native who’s been singing since I was eight years old. I’ve done everything from the hit tv show “The Voice” to being the face of McDonald’s wifi hitting 1 million views on YouTube at the age of 14. Music has saved my life. I’ve been through so many dark points in my life, God and Music is the only reason I’ve survived. I’ve been vocally trained since the age of eight. I went through the “Beyoncé” treatment having to run 3 miles every day and sing. I am getting recognized and co-sign by so many larger artists and increasing my streams of music every day.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My parents are from Cameroon and came here for a better life. We struggled a lot in the beginning. Both my parents were laid off and some days it would be hard to even get something to eat, some days we didn’t. My dad who played a huge part in my career passed away from cancer 2018 and that was possibly the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. So many panic attacks, so much anxiety and depression and wanting to give up. I almost quit, I didn’t think that I deserved anything good because of all the bad things. Until The week after he passed, and through so much prayer, I got one of my biggest performances yet. When a mentor of mine Chance the rapper and his nonprofit organization social works had a position to perform at WEDAY, at the Allstate arena which ultimately brought the reason for me to keep pushing on. Not to speak of when he could no longer speak the only thing he would react to was my music and the music we loved together.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud of being able to overcome all the craziness in the world and focus on my goal and purpose. My voice leaves people in awe as well as my message. I’ve always been known for being a singer, performing since a child, and doing all the things I need to do in order to succeed. I am still learning and growing and enjoying the journey.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned how mental health really needs to be taken care of. I feel like ever since having to be locked down for so long, many people came out of it not well. I’ve struggled a lot with mental health, contemplating things that cross my mind, and feelings of hopelessness but I came out of it through therapy and prayer. It’s understandable that your mind might feel off because we got hit with so many things and didn’t really prepare for all of the traumatic events we were put through. Covid has all types of variations, monkeypox and all. Your mental health is so important, your mind is what you use to function throughout life and I think mental health needs to be paid attention to more.
