Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrik Mitchell.
Hi Tyrik, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Georgia is where I was born and raised. I spent the majority of my adolescence in Jackson, Georgia, a small city south of Atlanta. My mother introduced me to sports at a young age. She thought it would be a good outlet for me, considering I was the only child at the time. I would eventually fall in love with the thrill of competing. By the age of 13, I was a multi-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball, baseball, and track & field.
I chose Kennesaw State University to further my football career at the collegiate level. I decided to leave the team after only two years in search of better opportunities. I am now pursuing a career in coaching and sports performance training. My primary goal is to assist athletes in not only achieving their goals but also in optimizing their abilities.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The path that led me to where I am today was far from easy. Just like most athletes, I faced adversity early in my collegiate career. I wasn’t on scholarship, I was often overlooked, and I had my fair share of injuries that kept me from playing. I could have easily given up, but I knew that I was better than that. I wanted better for myself, so I knew I had to put in more effort. I spent countless hours in the weight room, was the last to leave the practice field every day, and attended weekly study sessions to stay on top of my grades. My drive shaped me into the man I am today, and I am more determined than ever.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While I pursue my degree, I create free content that teaches and explains various methods of performance training. This includes strength training, aerobic training, mobility training, and a variety of recovery methods. The purpose of my content is to help individuals maximize their athletic potential, whether they compete in sports or not.
What’s next?
After graduating college, I intend to get a certification to show my commitment to sports performance coaching. I will then set out to acquire practical experience that will allow me to advance my understanding of strength & conditioning and work with real athletes.
