Today we’d like to introduce you to Tequila Williams.
Hi Tequila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Tequila, I was born in St. Louis, Mo but spent the majority of my life growing up in Madison, Al. Since, a child I loved everything beauty. I grew up around women who were all about beauty and loved to look their best. Seeing this growing up inspired me to want to make people feel and look their best by enhancing their looks. In 2009 I decided to attend Paul Mitchell the school-Huntsville for cosmetology in order to perfect my craft. I also went back to Paul Mitchell in 2017 to become an cosmetology instructor. I’ve worked on movie sets, fashion shows, photoshoots, taught classes and more. I relocated from Madison, AL to Atlanta three years ago in order to expand my career and offer more services. Atlanta has been a great place for me in this industry. I have now been a makeup artist/ hair stylist for over 12 years.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has not been a smooth one at all but I’m making it/made it this far. Two weeks before I was set to graduate from cosmetology school my mom passed away, I thought my career and life were over. My mom was the only parent I had around and who supported me the most. After her passing, I graduated from school and landed a job at my first salon. The first salon taught me a lot about the good and bad of this industry. It has now been almost 13 years since I started my career and I have gotten so many opportunities and success from my work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a makeup artist who specializes in photography and bridal hair and makeup. I would say I’m known for being a creative in every aspect because I also know how to make clothing and style models. I am most proud of my work I recently did alongside my sister, Tierra Williams, in an independent film. In that film, we made masks for our prosthetic work, and they turned out amazing. What sets me apart from others is that I could honestly say if I needed to do an entire production by myself (hair, makeup, styling, and photography), I could do just that.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years this industry is going to be in an overflow of greatness because we have new hairstylists and makeup artists entering the industry every day bringing their creative touch. I also think prosthetics and horror films will become even more realistic than they already are because of growth in this industry.
