From the tender age of three, Regina filled her home with dynamic vocals while her family and friends encouraged her to be a bright star for the entire world to see. Daughter of R&B Crooner Dodd E. Hicks Member of the famed soul r&b group “The Cashmeres”, Groomed early on to master her abilities as a vocalist/songwriter.
The motivated songstress developed a deeper love for music as she attended Musical Magnet programs to further her capabilities. Regina quickly excelled and was recognized by her music instructors for her stage presence and aptitude to dominate any crowd. At 14, the talented up-and-coming star collaborated with Tony Mercedes and the now-defunct corporation LaFace Records. Set to release her first album at the age of sixteen; unfortunately, it was shelved when LaFace Records dissolved.
Regina chose to continue her education but her love for music always simmered under the surface of her life, just waiting and be expressed worldwide. Now ready to begin her journey to stardom once again and showcase her powerful, “show-stopping” five-octave vocal range and ready to create reality out of a dream. Sit back and prepare to indulge in a ride on the sweet journey of a legendary and angelic songstress.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a bi-racial trans women there aren’t many Lanes for me so I’ve had to create my own. Because I’m trans, it’s been hard to find serious people to work with me because most people still fear the stigma but through my will, talent and faith in God’s gift, I’ve pushed through. My debut album has now been streamed 100,000 times on Spotify and that number slowly growing. With no team. No label and no huge budget, I’ve managed to make inroads in the Independent Music Scene being nominated for and winning two awards. The first in 2018, I won Original Song Of The Year at the Independent Tone Awards. And in 2019, I won best Female R&B at the UMA (Underground Music Awards) My Dream is to be nominated for and Win a Grammy!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer/songwriter. My talent and personality. I’m most proud of the things that I have Been able to accomplish despite the naysayers.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Atlanta. Its culture is rich and diverse and the music that has come from here over the last 25 years as well as art and filmmaking have made Atlanta The Hollywood of the South.
What I’m not proud of is the growing crime numbers and gang violence that’s plaguing our great city. We have to do better. We need more police on the streets and we need more funding for youth centers and after-school programs so that our kids have something constructive to turn to and not turn to gangs.
