Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Iman, The Style Medium.
Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Style Medium has grown so much from conception, and I think the evolution comes with my own personal growth. I started as a student at The Art Institute of Tampa where I gained my Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Marketing and Management. This was where I nurtured my first thoughts of what I wanted to do with Fashion Styling, where I came to know what and why fashion is, and where I became a fashion professional. The Style Medium has transitioned a lot since then, from focusing on personal styling to realizing that I am more of a Fashion Stylist who focuses on achieving a visual concept through style and fashion!
Now, I am in a transition again, of rebranding and building an audience that will understand what a Fashion Stylist can do for a brand, photoshoot, fashion show or marketing campaign. Here I will truly solidify what The Style Medium brings to the table and why she is a must-have for your visual conceptions!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe the road will never be smooth for us, especially creatives. We are very complex people and I feel the trials that we overcome build character and resilience. But for me, I believe most obstacles come from growing pains. Understanding who you are is hard work, but it is necessary to build your brand and the core values that you want your brand to stand for. So, I’ve dealt with things such as navigating bills and business needs, intimate relationships and business relationships and simply, how to keep moving forward when your real life doesn’t seem to be moving at all. But God! My favorite line, lol! I have God to fight through the hard times and so through all the challenges, I have grown tremendously for the better, and The Style Medium will reap the benefits of that!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Style Medium is a Fashion Stylist! So different from a personal stylist, who focuses on making someone’s wardrobe more practical for their personal aesthetics. A fashion stylist hones in on a concept, which is why a fashion stylist would market herself more to brands, companies, magazines, etc.
So for me, I specialize in creating fashion visuals that speak to a creative concept for magazines, brands, campaigns, promotions, etc. I have worked with a fashion week in Atlanta called Bovtiqve Fashion Week, helping them produce promotional shoots for their marketing and other companies, such as Goorin Bros. an old, well-established hat company. I’ve also been able to produce a shoot for Jaiko Magazine, a digital magazine also in the Atlanta area, where I was creative director and stylist!
Through working with Bovtiqve Fashion Week, I was able to travel to Las Vegas and style a photoshoot in the desert! That is probably one of my favorite moments from this year because the photos are SICK! Lol! But, my most proud moment was being able to style two different sets for Bovtiqve’s fall show this past September. It was a great moment because I utilized my very own fashion closet, curated by The Style Medium, and I was the creative director of each showing. So I created the concepts, the lineup and the fashions to speak to my story, and everyone loved it! It was a proud moment for me, and I loved that it showcased my creativity and style. A stylist on the runway shows up in a different way than a designer and I loved having that seen!
I believe my ability to authentically represent someone’s unique brand through fashion is what sets me apart. In addition to my true passion for the fashion industry. A lot of people say that they have a passion for this world, but they are not studious of the fashion world. I like to continue to be a student even with my growth, I always find time to watch and learn what is going on in the industry. After all, we are in ever-changing times and we have got to stay on our toes. And I always say, if I am going to take over the fashion world, which I am, then I’ve got to be a student before I can become the master!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The fashion industry is moving more towards sustainable fashion. This is something that I really appreciate because we, as an industry, are very harmful to the environment through the processes of making clothing. So I love to see the new era of recycling, thrifting and utilizing every piece of fabric for new fashion creations. This is something that I feel will grow drastically over the coming years simply because people have more ways to educate themselves on how they can become more sustainable as true fashion lovers!
