Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Patterson.
Hi Elijah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For me, my journey started at a family game night, back in 2020. My family loves throwing gatherings, game nights, dinners etc. During one of those game night events we were playing a game called “5 second rule” and I remember asking one of the questions and someone saying “who is that?!?!”. It was at the moment when it clicked for me. We can have a game like this but for US. Questions we can relate to, things that reflect our daily lives and experiences. So I pitched the idea right there on the spot and kind of came up with the idea at the same time I was explaining it. My family loved it, I didn’t know where to start or even how. I just knew it was needed.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely far from a smooth road. One of my first struggles was finding the “timer/buzzer.” My idea for what I needed was so specific and rare that I had no idea how to make it a real thing. After a year of looking, I considered 3d printing it, or even trying to rig it using other timers. Luckily, I was able to use my tattoo platform to ask people for help to research it with me. I offered money or a free tattoo for anyone that could find exactly what I was looking for. I got 100s or messages and NOTHING. But just as I was ready to give up someone finally sent me the link to what I couldn’t find for over a year. It was everything I was looking for, and a win-win because the maker of the timers actually manufactured games as well.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Although I consider myself someone who just loves to create, I’m known for being a tattoo artist and shop co-owner. The thing I’m most proud of is putting people close to me in positions to win. I’ve never been selfish when it comes to knowledge and opportunities. I don’t want to win alone. I want to bring the people around me to whatever levels of success I can possible bring them too. I feel being ambitious sets me apart from others. I don’t believe that just because you are good or great at something means that’s your one and only calling. I feel as though there are always other avenues to pursue and possibly conquer in life’s journey.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
As previously mentioned, I feel that being ambitious is the most important attribute to my success. The drive to always want more. Not in a way of greed or trying to fill a bottomless hole. More so, in the way of being able to be better than you were the day before. Trying new things, failing more to succeed more, etc. I feel as though so many people want to do things but think it’s too farfetched to ever achieve. But for me, there’s nothing more exciting than coming up with an idea and chasing it. Even if it doesn’t work out, at least you can say you went for it and you can learn from the experience. I never think “what if it doesn’t work? Only, What if it does?”
