Meet Emiliano Cuesta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emiliano Cuesta.

Hi Emiliano, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been taking photographs for almost one year, the path has been short, but nevertheless explosive. I started with analog photography, and when I got my second series of photographies out – “New York City Legs” – I was offered an exhibition in Mexico City, then another one in NYC, where it all started. I want to focus on what’s surreal, at least in the subtext of my photos.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been smooth. Since I’m also an actor and director, I focus on many things at the same time, so my growth as a photographer is constantly influenced by my life as an artist. The sensitivity of all the other mediums of art has made inspiration easier.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known for my series of analog photos “New York City Legs” as well as “Dias sem Você” which was my OperaPrima. I specialize in portraits, although street photography is what I enjoy the most. I am proud of my own style, of course, it is influenced by other artists, but I can say it is unique to me, and to my viewers. Many people describe my photos as Cinematic, and I say it’s correct. There is starting to be a “Vivant” essence in them like something happened or something is about to happen.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Going to the museum is the only recommendation I’d give. As well as painting. It helps to understand color and composition even better. Also, seeing other people’s art, not just through Instagram, but through photo books.
