Rising Stars: Meet Derrick Vore and Sydney Francis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Vore and Sydney Francis. Them and their team share their story with us below:

When Derrick and Sydney started dating in December of 2021, the couple always got such positive feedback over the social media posts of their date nights. They joked around about starting a food page on Instagram detailing their adventures throughout the City. In October of 2022, 10 months after they started dating, they decided to give their ‘audience’ of friends and family what they wanted. After an adventurous and long day at the Georgia National Fair, they documented their delicious food and unique activities. They decided that today would be the day to create the food page as there was a lot of content to show off to their family and friends of their adventure. Before debuting to the world, Sydney and Derrick wanted to create a unique and unforgettable name and logo for their Instagram. The competition was steep as there are plenty of talented ‘foodies’ on Instagram already. Then it hit them… “Georgia Peach Eats,” a name that encompasses the beauty of the entire state; while they’re based in Atlanta, they wanted to have a page that reflects the adventures in food and discovery they come across. And thus, Georgia Peach Eats was born. Where Sydney and Derrick update their friends, family, and audience on their adventures. Since its creation, they have received countless praises and positive comments from friends and strangers alike. They look forward to continuing to create content and watching their page reach new heights!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Derrick: One of the challenges we faced was editing and creating Instagram reels and videos for our audience. There was a sort of learning curve to it, understanding when to place transitions, when to have music, etc. While it is far from perfect, we find it in a good place that presents our adventures, food, and recommendations well. Sydney has honestly been such a great help with the editing, she’s got a magic touch when it comes to the phone, and it sometimes makes me feel too old… although we’re the same age!

Sydney: Sometimes, it can be a struggle to find new restaurants that haven’t been overdone before on social media. We want to help bring attention to places that may or may not get the same attention as other establishments or places in Georgia.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Sydney: Currently, I work as a Registered Nurse that specializes in oncology (cancer patients). A typical day includes administering chemotherapy treatments, delivering blood products, and working with clinical trials. Nothing brings joy to my face more than hearing the ‘cancer-free’ bell ring in the clinic. Many patients have to deal with stress, both medically and non-medically, and I strive to make sure those stresses can diminish while under my care. I also aim to see at least one smile a day from each of my patients!

Derrick: I am currently in graduate school for my Master of Public Administration! I am set to graduate in December 2022! I am proud of my accomplishments so far of graduating so early in my life, and I aim to work within the government or the education system here around Atlanta so that I can make an impact in my community.

How do you think about happiness?
Derrick: Honestly, Sydney. She has been such a rock in graduate school and has emotionally been there for me whenever I needed her the most. I am extremely grateful and love the joy she brings to my life. She is a best friend and a wonderful girlfriend all in one. The countless adventures and enthusiasm she has for everything that we do is excellent! This food page was another reason to get out there and explore more than we already do. We also love food, obviously, and it has been a great foundation for our relationship right from the start, like where we would look at date spots to explore on our free nights. While it might be childish to some, I have always enjoyed video games, which was one of the reasons it brought Sydney and me together.. but not in the way you’d expect! Late nights on my winter break, I would be up late playing Warhammer, and Sydney would be up late working night shifts. We had been friends for a few years at that point, so we would send each other funny memes and videos on Instagram that slowly became a tradition every day. But yes… my girlfriend makes me the happiest!

Sydney: Is it cheesy to say, my boyfriend? I know it’s typical, but Derrick has truly brought joy to my life that I have never experienced before. Even if we are doing something so boring, he really makes it so much fun! I could watch paint dry all day with him. Secondly, my patients make me the happiest as well. To see people who are so sick but so appreciative of everything you do is a feeling that is hard to describe but wonderful to feel. I cry tears of happiness every time one of my cancer patients completes their journey.
