Conversations with Naomi Yaledah-Bashaar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Yaledah-Bashaar.

Naomi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I actually got started with content creating at 11 years old. I started a YouTube channel and posted a video introducing myself and talking about what I wanted to do with my channel. I ended up not posting another video or making content again until I was a freshman in college at Florida A&M University. I filmed and uploaded about 6 videos during that time and they did fairly well actually. I took another break from creating and started back up in January 2022 with making reels and TikTok videos.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My creative journey hasn’t been easy. Starting out with YouTube, I used iMovie to edit my videos and I did so on my iPhone. iMovie, in my opinion is not to easiest to navigate and was always crashing on me, so uploading videos was always a challenge. This was very discouraging and frustrating which was the main reason I wasn’t consistent. Fast forward to this year, my biggest struggle has been imposter syndrome and self-doubt. It’s so easy to compare your journey and content to other creatives’ that you see online doing well and securing these brand deals. I have learned to silence my inner critic, find my own style/aesthetic and to be my authentic goofy self. I realized that this is the best content for me to create and put out there because it gives other emerging Black creatives inspiration to be themselves and produce the content they truly enjoy making.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multifaceted creator and nano-influencer. I create lifestyle, fashion, travel and everyday content. I don’t really have a specific niche and I think that is one of the things that makes me stand out. I am most proud of my creative work and my ability to put myself out there despite the possibilities of judgment from others online. I don’t filter myself to fit others’ perceptions or expectations of me. Another project that I am proud of is my “Naomi Day: a self-love series” where I share what I do in a day 100% dedicated to myself. I think it’s important to normalize prioritizing ourselves as especially as a Black woman and a Black creative.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
A few pieces of advice I’d like to give anyone who wants to break into this industry is to believe in yourself and just post your content. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t have to look like the next influencer’s content, just post it. Also no dream is too big. God gave you these big dreams, so trust in him and believe in yourself. I am always happy to network and support other creatives so please feel free to connect with me @thenaomibashaar on all platforms and via email [email protected]
