Community Highlights: Meet Courtney Rozier of Time Freedom TC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Rozier.

Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I moved to Atlanta from Chicago in 2001. I spent 14 years in Commercial Real Estate, but always had an interest in residential real estate sales. When I first arrived in Atlanta at the peak of the real estate boom, I always joked that “everybody & their mama had a real estate license” and many appeared to be killing it! I started the process of getting my license in 2002, however, I didn’t continue with it because I was moving up in the ranks of commercial real estate. I believe timing is everything. The things I learned in commercial property management; managing others, multi-tasking, handling potentially stressfully or uncomfortable situations with tact, etc., definitely make me a well-rounded business owner. Fast forward to December 2011 my now husband and I found out we were expecting twins and I was laid off from my job all in the same week!

After a tumultuous pregnancy that had me on bed rest for 6 out of 9 months; I found myself at a crossroads when it was time to determine how I wanted to continue making a living. With my new roles as wife and mom, I was faced with new perceptions of what it meant to be a success. No longer was concerned about climbing the corporate ladder; success now meant having more time freedom to be home with my kids after school and attend their events or nurture them when sick without guilt for taking off. These became the pillar of “my WHY”. Yet and still, I decided to go back to corporate in 2013. Boy, that experience really made my WHY and my perception of success that much clearer. It was exactly what I needed to kick my real estate career into high gear! I got serious and enrolled at GAMLS to complete the hours needed to sit for my license. Shockingly to me, with 2 rambunctious twins and husband, I passed the state exam on the first try on May 5, 2015. By Memorial Day, just by chance, I had linked up with one of the top rising real estate agents in the city at the time (Yakira Prise) as my mentor; remember timing is everything! I still had my corporate job at the time. But with my mentors’ strong encouragement to give real estate 100%, I quit with my husband’s blessing, 3 transactions closed and 2 in the pipeline. I’d become a full-time agent and never looked back.

Now here’s where it gets a little interesting. What they DON’T tell you is that a real estate sales career is extremely time-consuming and grueling. You have to learn to balance client expectations, physical expectations (showing homes, etc in Atlanta traffic), back-office business and lead generating each and every day. Not to mention your personal life and responsibilities. It is really easy to get consumed in growing a business. I realized the more ambitious I became in real estate, the more time it took away from my Why which was to be present with my family. I worked more as a real estate agent than I ever did in Corporate America.

This revelation led to me doing some soul-searching and realigning my goals with my Why. How could I reduce the time spent out of my home but still make great income? Up until this point, I had been handling the paperwork on my mentor’s transactions and she offered to pay me for it. It started off as her teaching me the contracts. I have always been one to like predictability, processes, etc. So, I gravitated toward doing this for her. This was before we even knew that a Transaction Coordinator was “a thing”. After a few years of doing this for her exclusively, I decided to create my own business around it and offer the service to other agents. My company Time Freedom TC was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The main struggle many of us women encounter is time management which for moms and/or wives, in particular, can lead to mom and wife guilt because It’s really hard to be “present” sometimes when you are building a business from the ground up. Additionally, lack of time management will most certainly end up in burnout eventually. This is your own business; you’re no longer working for someone else that is going to pay you even if you slacked off for a day. No baby, you’re in the big leagues now; you don’t work you don’t eat! So, understanding that you will need to be disciplined enough to work daily; way more than you did when you worked for someone else, is a must. A misconception many have when they are in the corporate rat race dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur is that they don’t have a boss and that they can work “if and when” they want. Hate to break it to you but, to an extent, your clients are your boss and I don’t know many women in my business haven’t worked on their vacation at some point in their career. So for me, I guess the struggle would be “unlearning” the employee mindset. Realizing that the goal is not to “work for yourself” or be “self-employed.” My mindset now is not of an employee; self or otherwise. My mindset is that of a business owner, which is a professional who is not afraid to delegate and understands that hiring the right people can actually make you money, even though their service may “cost.” You have to spend money to make money.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Time Freedom TC, LLC?
My Transaction Coordinating firm Time Freedom TC started as a way to just supplement my real estate sales business. Over the years, I have been able to grow the business as one of the premier TC firms serving clients across the nation. We partner with real estate agents to provide leverage in their business to not only make them more successful business people but also provide them with time freedom to avoid burnout so that they can also show up in their personal space. Time Freedom also has a coaching component called The TC Playbook where I mentor up and coming TC Business owners on how to profitably launch and grow their businesses.

Work/life blend for women especially, is something that is near and dear to my heart. I believe that in this day and time, we really can have it all with the right tools and mindset. Our company values are based on the following pillars: anticipating the needs by staying one step ahead, approaching each situation with a solutions-oriented mindset and exceeding expectations. Our goal as a company is to improve the quality of life for our client’s team members and students by helping to maintain human needs that money can’t buy such as security, comfort and work/life balance.

When agents hire our firm for their transaction management, they can expect a white – glove experience from contract to close. They no longer have to worry about missed deadlines, broker compliance errors or waiting to get paid after closing. We are seen as a part of the agent’s team, which lends to a more professional perception by all other parties of the transaction, especially their buyer/seller client! Our service is a low risk due to payment not being due only if /when we close.

The TC Playbook started in late 2019. I have received requests over the years to offer some form of one-on-one coaching and always shied away from it because frankly, there just wasn’t enough hours in the day to be able to offer this; instead I would freely give information. I had always planned to provide some sort of group coaching, but again, I couldn’t find the time to commit to really making it something I was proud of. This led to procrastination. But when the pandemic hit, I was able to really slow down and invest in the knowledge needed to learn how I could get my training out! I hosted my first group of aspiring TC’s in November 2019! Since then, countless TC’s have come through my program and are doing exceedingly well! I’m proud of the program because it gives business-minded goal-getters the tools to change the trajectory of their lives through a business that can provide security, comfort and work/life balance from the comfort of their home or anywhere in the world!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Atlanta! I always say Chicago raised me but Atlanta made me! I’ve lived here most of my adult life. I love that it has become a major hub for entertainment. All major acts come to Atlanta to perform. There are a lot of attractions here for all ages. What I like least about the city is what everyone hates… TRAFFIC.
