Meet Weiqian Han

Today we’d like to introduce you to Weiqian Han.

Hi Weiqian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I took a year off from high school due to a medical condition and my parents suggested that I study art to help me regain my physical and mental health. During that year, I fell in love with art and decided to pursue it further by studying graphic design at a university in Shanghai. I have always had a lot of ideas and creativity in my life, which I channeled into my studies. My four years in college solidified my passion for design, as I learned about the importance of aesthetics in all aspects of life. I then decided to further my education by pursuing a Master’s degree in Motion Media Design at Savannah College of Art and Design. I am constantly seeking new opportunities to explore, discover, and push the boundaries of my art. I am not afraid to challenge myself and try new things, which has helped me to grow as a designer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles I faced was feeling behind in my drawing skills compared to my peers. I started learning to draw later than most of them, which made me feel self-conscious and less confident in my abilities.

Another struggle was feeling alienated from my peers and friends as they were studying business while I was studying design. I felt like I had nothing in common with them and it was hard to relate to them. This caused me to doubt my decision to pursue design and I considered giving up on it during my sophomore year.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a strong understanding of design principles, typography and color theory, and I use that to create unique and valuable designs that effectively communicate my client’s message to their audience. I am passionate about finding creative solutions to design problems and I am constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in my work.

I am most proud of the fact that I have helped friends around me to solve design and life challenges. I strive to make a positive impact in the world through my art and my activities. I believe that art is a powerful tool that can be used to communicate important messages and evoke emotions in people. Additionally, I enjoy helping others and counseling. I am a good listener and I believe that it is important to take care of our mental and emotional well-being as well as physical. This approach and being a good listener set me apart from others.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
One of my most influential mentors was my graphic design professor in college. She was always willing to take the time to provide feedback on my work and offer guidance on how to improve. She also gave me the opportunity to assist her on several projects which allowed me to gain valuable experience and learn from him.

I’ve also had a lot of support from my family. They were always supportive of my decision to pursue a career in design and encouraged me to follow my passion. They also were always there to provide emotional support during the times when I struggled.

Lastly, I would like to mention my friends, who helped me to develop my skills and learn to work. They supported me and encouraged me to keep working hard and to strive for success. They have provided me with valuable perspectives and feedback, which has helped me to grow as a designer. Their support and encouragement have been instrumental in my journey.

Overall, I have been lucky to have a lot of people in my life who have supported me and helped me to achieve my goals. I am very grateful for the role they have played in my success.
