Today we’d like to introduce you to Cambry H.
Hi Cambry, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Cambry H, I’m an Artist, DJ, and Curator – anything you can think of at this point! I’m from Fort Wayne, Indiana, but I spent many summers in Atlanta and it’s a huge part of my childhood specifically when it comes to music. I have lots of family in Atlanta, so my mom and I would always go and stay for weeks at a time in the summer since her job was very relaxed.
One summer, my cousin who was really into music had a copy of FL Studio on her computer, and I remember begging my mom to run me to the store so I could get a thumb drive to put the program on so I could take it home (Dial-Up and slow DSL internet only existed at the time). I started experimenting with it around age 7 or 8 and eventually learned piano in middle school, then joined show choir once I figured out I could sing. I’ve been doing it ever since I guess!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has been a weird one if I’m being honest. I’ve had a lot of false starts over the past few years which can be discouraging, but I think it makes the wins so much more meaningful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For starters, I’m an artist, DJ, and all-around creative. I like to think of myself as my own muse, as it allows me to create the world I want for myself. I’m most known for my campaign with Sephora in 2021, or from my collaborations with musician/animator Jeron Braxton and singer Ye Ali. I think I’m the most proud of being able to inspire other people to just be themselves, and be patient. For me, it’s the only way I’ve ever been able to thrive. I’ve always been into music from a very young age so I always knew I wanted to do something with it. It’s one of my ways of communicating with people. I think what sets me apart has to be my take on production. I love R&B, but my influences are Alternative, Electronic, and Rock. I think my diverse taste in music has allowed me to carve out my own space and not be pigeon-held into one genre.
