Today we’d like to introduce you to Linetta Bell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I accidentally got into the industry due to corporate downsizing. I was working in the HR department of a German Steel Mill when I became a casualty of the decision to consolidate some of the positions. Being a single mom, who had just purchased a new home, I had to find a job quickly. Shortly thereafter, the BP oil spill happened (2010), and I was thrust into the catastrophe arena. After working five months, the command center relocated to Baton Rouge, LA. I wasn’t in a position to relocate, so like many of my colleagues, I began working in the insurance industry for Pilot Catastrophe. I became a licensed adjuster (2012) and began to taking deployments that required travel. I witnessed many unfair and biased practices within the industry and decided to it was up to me to make a change. Upon returning home from a deployment (2018), I decided to start my own independent adjusting firm that would allow for growth based on merit and ability, offer fair compensation and treat adjusters with respect. Two years later, during the pandemic, I offer online training to individuals interested in obtaining their state-approved independent adjuster’s license.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road hasn’t been smooth. Because of the pandemic, it has been challenging to communicate with the appropriate parties to get the correct information to get to the next steps of activating the programs in different states for the academy and there have been challenges to get government contracts with certain entities as a minority female.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Gulf Coast Adjusting Academy was founded in 2020 by Linetta D. Bell. Ms. Bell has worked in the insurance adjusting field for over 12 years. During this time, she has worked with the federal government, private insureds, and insurance companies to provide insurance adjusting services. After starting her own company, DB Marlin Adjusting Solutions, LLC., she decided to start the Gulf Coast Adjusting Academy to give equal opportunity to those who would like to start their career in insurance adjusting.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Social and family-oriented activities are a definite plus, but I hate the traffic.
