Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Jericevich.
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Great Prospects was an established after school program and a summer program when I took it over. The therapeutic program of Great Prospects is my creation. I started this non-profit organization when my own daughter, Indya, was finishing up her time in the school system and we couldn’t find a place for her post-high school. Great Prospects was born out of a need for a safe place for my daughter to continue to grow, learn, develop friendships, experience peer support, and have fun living life! Great Prospects’ overall mission is to provide meaningful connections for individuals with disabilities through continued educational enrichment, social interaction, and challenging recreational programs. We offer parents a place to drop off their son/daughter and go to work knowing they will be well cared for in a safe and enriching environment. It is hard for others to understand our lives, therefore we have to support each other. Great Prospects can lighten the load for our families.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the obstacles or challenges that we have had to face are location and space, as we do not have our own. We are currently at a church who has been gracious enough to let us use their additional space. We are working towards and dreaming of our own home one day. Another obstacle has been transportation, as we have outgrown the current bus we have which limits what kind of outings we may be able to do or how we get to where we are wanting to go. A couple of other challenges have been things like insurance and getting active board members.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a registered, certified teacher and member of the Royal Academy of Dance, London, England. I was the Dance Coordinator for North Atlanta High School from 1989-2000. I then joined Atlanta Ballet education faculty from 2000-2019. I currently sit on the Board of the Georgia Chapter of the NDEO and is on faculty at Royal Dance Academy. Michelle serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Great Prospects. I am also an advocate for Epilepsy and CMV awareness. My daughter is a participant in the program.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I am passion driven and believe the therapeutic day program is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.
