Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Benjamin Miller.
Hi Noah Benjamin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Atlanta as a young performer before moving to NYC to attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts for Acting. While studying theatre there, I discovered that there was a disconnect between everything I was attempting to force myself to become and who I really wanted to be. My love was in Popmusic and antihero storytelling… So I spent time finding my identity in being depressed, quite honestly. I moved to Los Angeles to seek a change of environment and study with the groundlings. I did eventually land my first acting role with a show on NBC while working with a couple of producers attempting to make me a boyband member. Throughout it all, I was constantly begging for permission to do what I loved and it was not good for me. Self-medicating became more of the focus until the show I was cast on brought me back to Atlanta.
After years of self-work, A master’s degree in film from SCAD, an EP under my music name NOAHBOY, and a few years of sobriety: I think I found the version of myself I trust and thrive in. A way to marry my experiences into my storytelling through the medium of film. My past films LAPSE, BUT MOMMA I LOVE HIM and FLOOD MY BASEMENT have all won numerous awards internationally. My current Pilot POPPED, which I created as my thesis (and star in) is heading to festivals and my main focus is selling it to series. The premise is an ex-boyband member named Mason Grate becomes more famous for the past decade for his rehab stints and arrests than making music, so his label drops him, forcing him to move back to his childhood town where his family expects him to work on his sister’s farm…but once there discovers the drug cartel operates and distributes on this farm and his discovery locks him into a deal with the cartel where they force him to make a new album and embark on a world tour through which they will launder cartel money. Most current singles out on streaming under NOAHBOY are “The Ache” and “Beware”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! Aside from the rejection and uncertain path of the industry, I faced addiction which made it impossible. But I will say my struggles are my strengths now. My connection to community, my sense of self, my grit… all came from clawing my way to sobriety and gifted me someone I know I can believe in: and that’s me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for my Film Directing, particularly dark comedies. I act in some of them. My music career is not as much of the main focus but recording under NOAHBOY always brings me joy. I have been pounding the pavement in NYC, LA, and ATLANTA as a performer for 15 years. I am the one you call with a big idea you want to see get done, even when it seems completely impossible. My pilot POPPED raised eyebrows since the inception for how it would get done and well. But my superpower has always been that I am a Peter Pan spirit with a Wendy accountability and structure.
How do you think about happiness?
Long hard days on set. Because at the end of the day, I am always astounded at the accomplishments. I love sitting back in my car, lighting the after work cigarette and thinking about the boy who struggled so hard to figure it out and be sitting right where he is.
