Today we’d like to introduce you to L. Adonis Frank.
Hi L. Adonis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been a relentless hustler. My journey ignited from a young age, fueled by an unwavering drive and a penchant for setting ambitious goals. Constantly feeling like the underdog, always having the fear of not being enough kicked my ass! I navigated through a world where conventional standards eluded me – I would hear things like he’s not attractive enough, not masculine enough, too urban, too dark yet I always made sure to rise above, always striving to be ten times better. From the shadows of the background, I emerged as someone who decided i was no longer just a participant but an asset in any situation wether it be work or personal.
Starting as a server at Applebee’s, my path evolved into that of a bartender, a moment that unexpectedly marked the discovery of what would be the seed that would grow into my calling and future passion. Once mastering the art of mixology I started in the production industry as a PA (Production Assistant) in 2015 where I would get coffee and set up craft services for productions, while learning the ropes I created amazing relationships and showcased my talent which led me to a very quick rise in the industry. Working as a producer on some of our favorite Bravo reality shows. In September 2005, The Starrtender was born, a testament to my journey from the sidelines to the spotlight, turning challenges into opportunities and making an indelible mark on my chosen path.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up, I faced a multitude of obstacles that shaped my early years. Colorism cast a shadow over my identity, making me feel like I didn’t quite fit in due to the darkness of my skin. Now, the things I got teased about as a child I’m being praised for as an adult (super ironic). The absence of a father figure left me grappling with feelings of low self-worth as I yearned for guidance and validation that seemed elusive. I used to think that if I made myself more interesting and achieved so many things, maybe one day my father would come back and see what he’s missed out on. That really fueled me. Coming from an urban community, I felt the weight of stereotypes and judgments as others looked down on my upbringing. Despite these challenges, I learned to navigate the complexities of life, drawing strength from within to overcome the odds stacked against me. Each struggle became a stepping stone, propelling me forward and shaping the resilient individual I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Experiential producer, Chef, Mixologist & DJ. Everyone calls me the modern-day Renaissance man. Specializing in producing & curating experiences for big brands and high-profile clientele. Some artists and brands include Beyoncé, Nas, Hennessy, D’USSè, Armand De Brignac, HBO, Bravo, BET, Tinder & Amazon to name a few. I am know for my passion, work ethic, attention to detail and my ability to seamlessly blend creativity with precision to elevate every project i produce. There have been many amazing points in my career; however, two stand for the top position in my eyes. The first would be producing a signature cocktail experience with D’USSè for Jay Z & Beyoncé at the Made in America Festival and starring in and placing in the top 3 on HBO’s hit original reality series Finding Magic Mike. Many things set me apart from others; I try to look at it as if we are all individuals and bring so much to every situation. I always say when you lead with a good heart and integrity, you will always be successful.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I am definitely a child of the 90’s. I miss the days of playing manhunt, slapboxing, and playing football with my bros on the block. It was all about community and brotherhood. I look back and see that those were the moments that molded me and helped me grow.
