Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakia Glenn.
Hi Nakia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Nakia (NakiaMichelle), and I am a 45-year-old serial entrepreneur daily as well as full-time in the multi-family industry. I am from Columbus, GA and currently reside in Atlanta, GA. It all started in 2006 while working full-time at Aflac that, I decided to continue my education and obtain a degree in Business Management due to my dream was to always own my own business. In May 2010, I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Strayer University, and within the same year, I started my entrepreneur journey, all while still working for Aflac. I opened my very first business 5 Starr Income Tax Service, in Columbus, GA that specialized in income tax preparation for individuals as well as small businesses. I started taking classes consistently and studying the tax laws consistently because this was my passion at the time and my goal was to grow and expand. I continued to work at Aflac full time as well as run my business for 3 years. As my business grew more and I opened additional locations, I made a very hard decision to leave leave Aflac 12/31/2013 and became a full time entrepreneur.
Fast forward, I opened my online clothing store in 2014, and my very first year was amazing and I made more than I could have ever imagined my first year in business. During this time, I was still operating my tax business as well as my clothing store. As time went on, I knew that my tax business was something I only wanted to do for 10 years. My clothing business, I wanted to grow more and do forever because it was year-round, my passion was stronger for it, and I truly loved it with everything in me. I finally closed my tax business after I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish: opened for ten years and make the money to fund my clothing brand. Fast forward to January 2024, I will be celebrating ten years of my clothing brand, “NAKIAMICHELLE” which has grown tremendously. Over the nine years, we have shipped worldwide to over 5,000 customers, we have added wholesale within the last year, we have created a custom candle line which is being offered at several apartment communities starting in 2024 in their “welcome home” kits, our name is trademarked, and we have so many more things coming in 2024!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely has not been smooth but very REWARDING! With the tax business, there were so many risks involved, and it became draining, but I absolutely loved all my clients who trusted me over the ten years. With my clothing brand, it hasn’t been smooth daily, but it definitely hasn’t been draining. After taking a few losses because I was all over the place initially, I quickly got a mentor to learn everything I needed to know, found my targeted audience, and upgraded everything. It has been very rewarding over these past nine years!

NakiaMichelle is a trendy and stylish clothing brand that when you (a woman) enter a room, all eyes will definitely be on you with our fashionable looks. We are known for providing not only fashionable apparel but have been complimented by many customers for providing quality apparel.
I think what sets my brand apart from others is that we go for unique looks, statement pieces, and looks that demand attention. We go above and beyond on presentation when marketing our brand, whether via social media, our packaging to our customers, and more.
NakiaMichelle not only specializes in retail, but we started testing the wholesale industry, and it has been rewarding. We will be opening the platform up to more boutiques/clothing brands in Spring 2024.

Besides my friends and family that motivate me daily, I give all the credit to my God who has made everything possible for me and my brand NakiaMichelle. My business plan includes PRAYER, and the word of God guides me every step of the way daily!
