Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Cape.
Hi Caleb, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved art. I guess I’d say in 2013 I really got into graphic design after one of my close friends growing up passed away. I started my own graphic design business my Sophomore year and would do some commissions for my graphic design class. I graduated in 2015 from East Hall High School. I let them push me through the system since I was making 3 to 4 hundred a week. In 2016, I was asked if I wanted to learn how to tattoo, and I’ve been in the industry ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t call it smooth; my mentor was less than pleasant to deal with and, in the long run, turned out to be a terrible person. But I overcame my struggles and I would like to say I’m doing pretty good for myself these days.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in neo traditional and new school, working on blending both to create my own style. I love anything bold and colorful. I also love doing anything punny.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
In the beginning, I learned a lot via YouTube and just practicing on friends. Along the way I met a lot of cool people and got to learn from them, we kind of teach each other. A few of my coworkers after I left my original shop showed me some things, then I moved to Wild Tribe Tattoos and met Mac Sharony. We taught each other a lot in the time we were coworkers and got really close as friends. Now, at my current shop, we practice different techniques and try to grow together as artists.
