Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kristina McCalla.
Hi Kristina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
From my earliest memories, I knew interior design was more than just a talent; it was a God-given gift, a calling that urged me to use this skill for a purpose greater than myself. As I immersed myself in the design world, from schooling to running my own design business, the conviction grew that this gift was bestowed upon me for a reason—an opportunity to impact lives meaningfully.
The turning point in my journey occurred on the day of my baptism. I felt a powerful vision emerge, a mission from God to utilize my talents to positively impact those emerging from homelessness. My baptism catalyzed a new chapter where Rooted Interiors was born.
I began networking and relationship-building, becoming a member and ambassador of my county’s Chamber of Commerce and attending rotary and nonprofit meetings. Through partnerships with several shelters and furniture banks, I’ve successfully furnished the homes of two formerly homeless families with the passion and desire to serve many more families.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our journey at Rooted Interiors has been remarkably smooth, all by the grace of God, because I am very new to the nonprofit world. From the beginning, I’ve been blessed with a clear path forward. My faith has guided me every step, ensuring that I cross paths with the right people and that each endeavor unfolds seamlessly.
With God’s guidance, we’re cultivating strong relationships and experiencing growth and success. It’s truly a testament to His divine favor and provision in all aspects of our organization. Like any new venture, building trust within the community takes time. We are addressing this challenge by demonstrating the tangible impact that Rooted Interiors is creating instead of merely discussing it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Rooted Interiors, Inc. is a faith-based non-profit organization with a mission to transform lives through design by providing complete interiors, free of charge, to those emerging from homelessness. We will custom design and fully furnish havens where families and individuals can plant roots, get rooted in Jesus Christ, and thrive. According to HUD, up to 50% of families return to homelessness within a year of securing housing. Although entering housing is an important step in the journey out of homelessness, an empty house isn’t a home, and a roof alone is not enough to solve the problem. That’s where we come in!
An extension of Rooted Interiors is our design firm, Rooted Interior Design. Through Rooted Interior Design, every project contributes to our nonprofit initiative. We believe good design should be accessible to everyone. As a comprehensive residential design firm, we provide assistance across various aspects, including selecting architectural details and finishes, creating floor plans, collaborating with contractors for remodels and renovations, and curating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces with furniture, fabrics, accessories, and more. Additionally, we offer virtual design services to cater to diverse client needs across the US.
