Today, we’d like to introduce you to Erin McClellan.
Hi Erin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the interior design world was unconventional. When I was living in a tiny loft apartment, my mom and I furnished it together, and I believe this set the foundational love for design. Several years later, my husband and I bought a 60’s mid-century ranch home after tackling small-scale projects in our historic bungalow.
This home was bare bones and needed so much TLC. I am talking about the fact we only had subfloors and a mouse in the kitchen! Through this, I could not only fall in love with the design aspects, but I also found that I had a natural talent for envisioning spaces. I shared our journey renovating the ranch home on Instagram, and that snowballed into people wanting my help in their homes.
The rest is history!
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Just like life, this journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has truly been rewarding. It doesn’t feel like working because I genuinely enjoy interior design so much. Some struggles along the way have been learning the design principles to make the process as a whole smoother.
It is ironic in a way – I didn’t go to school for design. I have been a high school English teacher for the last ten years. I have educated myself on my time to understand more and elevate my work. At the conclusion of this school year, I am planning on stepping into design full-time, and I couldn’t be more excited.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The work I do is interior design with a dash of content creation. I specialize in mixing mid-century, modern, and organic. (That doesn’t mean I don’t love every other type of design; this is just where my heart began). I am most proud of our own home but also of earning the trust of my clients.
Making someone’s home what they dream is the biggest honor in my book, and I truly enjoy seeing the joy they have after trusting me with their homes. I have been featured in Apartment Therapy, and worked with some amazing brands that also make me proud of the work put forth. I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact I can mix styles, and create upscale design in a space that people feel is a lost cause.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Atlanta for its vibrancy, diversity, and authenticity. We aren’t ashamed of our city, what we represent, and where we came from. The thing I like least is how rush hour is every hour, and parking can be quite a challenge.
