Daily Inspiration: Meet Rossana Novaes da Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rossana Novaes da Silva.

Rossana Novaes da Silva

Hi Rossana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a 2-time survivor of domestic violence and moved to Atlanta 3 years ago. I felt God calling me out of Florida to create a deeper relationship with him and start life anew. Little did I know that after a benign tumor was discovered 2 years ago, I would undergo brain surgery and then have a vivid vision from God months later to help a friend crossover into the afterlife after battling cancer.

That was the confirmation I needed to transition out of a family business I had been a part of since I was 16 years old! I needed to help other survivors through my healing after some devastating years of abuse in 2 previous relationships after my first marriage.

I opened my ministry last year and started my weekly podcasts this January on healing after domestic violence through my faith and master’s degree in counseling to reach as many survivors as possible to spread awareness, transformation, and candid convos with experts in our community and survivor turned thrivers today! I am now part of a family violence task force and I am participating in advocacy work here locally.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! Some of my family members were wondering how I would make a living! A non-profit is challenging when you’re first starting out and for me, there was no question that God would provide, and He has been faithful since.

I needed to have a couple of sit-down conversations with my mother who owns the family business that I would be transitioning out of running both her early childhood centers and into ministry work by the end of this year. I am currently training someone in-house to oversee the business in my stead.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a ministry leader and advocate I get to dabble in so many exciting avenues! We are currently running the podcast, but we are also working on an album (which will release a couple of singles this year) catered to domestic violence and how your faith can help you find healing and life again. I am working on a Christian living book that will be released this year. I have also completed a documentary which is currently being worked on.

My advocacy work is especially important to me because so many community leaders need to get educated on the cycle of DV and remove their myths and presuppositions about this social epidemic. I plan on providing short talks to law enforcement, state politicians, and other members of our community about the whys and truth behind this pervasive violent way of living for millions around the world.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Yes! Make sure your why resonates with who you are and the message you want to share with the world. Let it empower others to take what you offer and pass it along so that the world will be a better place to live because of what you will begin. Focus on today but with the end in the background.

You will get there and don’t forget to advocate your purpose! No one else will understand but you! And that’s alright. I wish I knew that I did not have to take other people’s opinions of me seriously. I could have saved lots of time and emotional baggage, but it only made me stronger.
