Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott and Kayley Huynh. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Scott was born in the southern part of Vietnam and raised in Georgia, while Kayley’s southern U.S. heritage can be traced back to the late 18th century (hence our channel’s name, Southern Huynhs). We are a blended family that continues to practice and enjoy each other’s culture.
Our social media channel revolves around the love we have for family, food, and travel. We enjoy creating videos that show a little bit of our everyday. We started our channel as a means to showcase Scott’s mother’s and sister’s cooking and it has grown into a full family vlog. We have been married for 8 years and were initially brought together through our excitement of experiencing new foods and places.
Some of our favorite countries we have been to are Vietnam, Japan, and Peru. Kayley initially fell in love with travel when she moved to Korea in 2013 for a teaching job. Once she returned to the States, she met Scott, and together were set on achieving their dream of one day circumnavigating the world in a sailboat.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road for the most part. The hardest part of this journey is having the extra time and finances to travel and create content while both Kayley and I still work full-time jobs. Scott is a dentist and Kayley is a dental hygienist in the Atlanta area while also being a full-time vlogger. It can be challenging to find a balance between working, filming, editing, and raising a family all while planning our next travel adventure.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are content creators that produce content through social media platforms and we are most proud of the strong family bond between our two families. What sets us apart is that we bring two different cultures together through family, food, and travel. We enjoy educating our viewers on both Scott’s Vietnamese background, and Kayley’s southern background and how these two cultures can merge and exist in harmony.
Our hope is that we can demonstrate how people with different backgrounds can assimilate into each other’s way of life and find balance. Our channel focuses on family, the adventures we share, from traveling the world and eating exotic foods (from Michelin Star sushi in Tokyo to bugs in Shanghai) to camping all over the US, and the day-to-day lives of a mixed cultural family.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The risk that we’re taking with this business venture is sharing our lives with the public. We have underage kids and family members who are a part of our channel. Initially, we were hesitant because of the possible future impacts on our kid’s long term with a camera recording them and being in the social eye. However, we have truly enjoyed all the interactions with our viewers both online and at events. Our children have thrived on camera and are excited to be involved with this venture.
