Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheril N. Clarke.
Hi Cheril, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been writing in one medium or another for the last 25 five years. From poetry to fiction to children’s books to stage plays and executive ghostwriting in the corporate arena – storytelling is in my blood. I’ve gotten to where I am through consistency, passion, and a commitment to always being better at my craft today than I was yesterday.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been smooth, but it never felt insurmountable because I knew I had the talent and patience to see my goals through. Some struggles I’ve had to overcome or navigate through include a lack of financial resources, a lack of belief about how marketable my work was (from others), and not always having a strong professional network when I was younger.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a storyteller. After a decade-long detour serving as a ghostwriter and speechwriter for corporate clients, I’ve returned to my creative roots and am focused on fiction and poetry. I’m known for telling stories that feature women redefining their lives and living on their terms (and the roadblocks that come with that). What sets me apart is that I am one of the few novelists who is also an award-winning playwright, poet, and children’s book author. I also built an executive communications agency from scratch that served Fortune 500 clients worldwide. My experience is vast. I have LIVED and experienced a lot, which allows me to tell authentic stories to various audiences. My focus right now is women over 35 who want more passion, adventure, and thrill in their lives.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
A year and a half ago, I sold everything and left the United States to travel to Latin America with my wife and dog. I also wrote my first novel when I was 19 years old. I’d read somewhere that if you wanted to be a great writer, it would take at least ten years. So, I said, “I might as well get started now!”
