Rising Stars: Meet Dasha Kucheriavykh of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dasha Kucheriavykh

Hi Dasha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Dasha, and I am a 26-year-old portrait photographer from Russia, now based in Atlanta, GA. With over five years of experience, I honed my craft through formal education at Atlanta Technical College, where I completed my degree in photography.

I specialize in fashion and art photography, capturing the essence of people with a keen eye for detail. Many have told me I have the ability to make anyone feel like a model gracing a high-end magazine. Some of my work has been showcased at the 8th and 9th annual ATC Photo Show, where I won “Best in Show” for two consecutive years.

Photography is not just a profession for me but a way of life. I believe there’s beauty in every corner, waiting to be captured and shared. I’ve honed my skills to transform ordinary moments into extraordinary memories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been smooth. The hardest moment was in February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine. I had just begun to find success in Moscow, and suddenly I had to start over in the USA. Building my career from scratch in a new country with different dynamics was a significant challenge. However, I was determined to continue my passion for photography, driven by my love for the art and my desire to capture beauty everywhere.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in individual portraits, weddings, family sessions, and couples photography. My work focuses on color, exploring how different shades impact viewers’ perceptions. I am proud of my ability to make anyone feel like a professional model, whether they’re gracing a magazine page or simply seeking memorable photos. My dedication to capturing genuine moments and seeing the beauty in everyone sets me apart, creating images that are both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
While I don’t have a specific mentor, I admire many photographers whose work inspires me. Social media allows people to share experiences and expertise openly, and I learn from others by engaging with photographers I admire on platforms like Instagram. For networking, take advantage of social media, follow industry leaders, and participate in online communities. Attend local photography events and workshops to connect with professionals in person. Stay curious, open to learning, and actively engage with the community.
