Life & Work with Kyla Chika of Atlanta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Chika

Hi Kyla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Every time I reflect on my journey, it leaves me in a sense of shock and astonishment. There was always a fire deep within me, a restless energy pushing me to move toward something greater, even when I wasn’t entirely sure where I was headed. From the very beginning, I knew the place I was standing wasn’t where I was meant to remain.

At that time, I had just started deepening my relationship with Christ. I often prayed, asking God if it was time to move on, but I kept hearing, “Not yet.” When the right moment finally came, I began my journey toward purpose. With a background in Biochemistry, I thought that was my path—maybe earn a doctorate and solve some great mystery to possibly become a millionaire. But I never imagined I would become a singer, songwriter, actress, speaker, director, and business owner, building a brand of my own.

Singing has always been part of me, but I never saw myself writing music, performing at events, or acting in films. God wanted me to see the fullness of who I truly am—far beyond what I ever thought was possible. I once felt like my words held no weight. But now as a speaker, I learned I had a voice. I’ve learned that trials bring wisdom, and trusting the process of growth and purpose has been my greatest challenge, but also the most rewarding.

I’ve had to go through development, grooming, lessons, fire, and the gaining of wisdom to prepare for where I’m headed. Though this process has been a lot, I’m realizing the process has been necessary.

My dreams often scare me, but I’m learning that the fear means I’m reaching for something truly meaningful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been far from smooth. Like any path toward purpose and excellence, it comes with its fair share of challenges. Here are few personal hurdles I’ve faced:

#1: Growing Pains: Becoming more than you’ve ever been is necessary to accomplish more than you’ve ever done. This growth has stretched me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I’ve had to develop my mindset, trust God more deeply, learn to delegate, lead others, and master the art of business. My calendar has become fuller, and I’ve had to become an avid and effective problem-solver. Each of these growth areas has been essential for me to reach the next level, and while uncomfortable, I now understand their necessity.

#2: Resistance: When you’re called to something that can change lives, including your own, resistance will follow. Whether from people, your own thoughts, limited access, or even health, obstacles arise. But I’ve learned that no weapon formed against me can truly prosper. It took time—many days filled with tears—but as I trusted God more, I found consistent victory and peace.

#3: Self-Doubt: This has been a constant companion on my journey, with thoughts like, “Can I really do this?” creeping in. But the real question I should have asked was, “If I was given this vision, don’t I know that God has already equipped me with everything I need to succeed? And that He’ll open the doors to prepare me for what’s ahead?” Once I recognized that I already had everything within me to bring my dreams to life, the self-doubt started to fade. Anything I didn’t know, I would learn along the way. Period.

#4: Fear of Success: In the beginning, I didn’t trust my ability to make sound, effective decisions. I was skeptical, constantly fearing that too many great opportunities would overwhelm me, leaving me unsure of which to choose for my future. But I’ve learned that trusting myself, seeking discernment, doing thorough research, and growing in wisdom equips me to make better decisions. I realized that fear had no place in my journey. I’m not dedicated to just being great but to also fulfill my purpose of change and impact. I had all the tools I needed—wisdom, growth, discernment, knowledge, and protection. With that understanding, I chose to remove fear from the equation.

Now, I move forward with a renewed mindset.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Recording Artist, Actress, and Scientist here in Atlanta, GA. My entire brand is rooted in encouraging, empowering, and helping others grow. Through my music and my work, I aim to inspire people to pursue their purpose and embrace the fullness of who they are. I create music that feeds the soul—uplifting and encouraging—while also being a vibe that’s fun, joyful, and full of life.

I’m grateful to be known for my live performances, which bring energy and connection to audiences across the city. Two of my most meaningful projects are EyE’M Processing and Refflection, both of which I’ve showcased in concerts. These aren’t just performances; they are reflections of my journey. EyE’M Processing is already out, and Refflection is on the way, and each album represents my growth, pain, and healing.

I’ve also poured my heart into two music videos, “Cuts” and “Signature”. These are more than just songs to me—they’re expressions of who I am, and I’m proud of the story they tell. Every time someone connects with these works, it reminds me why I do this. Definitely take the time to check them out on my YouTube Channel: Kyla Chika.

Beyond music, I’ve been honored to be part of films like Endless Dreams, Incredulous, and the feature film Kirk Franklin’s: A Gospel Christmas. Each role has allowed me to express different sides of myself and reach people in new ways.

But more than any accolade, what I value most is inspiring others. My goal is to pour love, high-frequency energy, and encouragement into the world, so people feel empowered to strive for excellence in their own lives. I believe in being a positive force—someone who lifts others as I continue on my own journey of growth and purpose.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my most cherished childhood memories is the first time I visited my hometown of Enugu, Nigeria. It remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Although I wasn’t born there, half of my family lives in Enugu, and the experience profoundly touched me.

Initially, I hesitated about going to Nigeria, influenced by the negative portrayals of Africa I had encountered in the media. But as I grew older, I discovered that Nigeria is a place of immense beauty and serenity. The landscapes were breathtaking, and the food was a delightful revelation.

Life in Enugu was markedly different from what I was accustomed to in the States, yet I embraced and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The experience deepened my connection to my culture and my family. When I left, I found myself yearning to spend a year living there, fully immersing myself in my heritage. I am confident that one day, the opportunity to return and live there will come, and I look forward to it with great anticipation.
