Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Jack
Hi Paul, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been tattooing for over 16 years, a lifelong student of art, I’ve studied at various institutions including Louisiana State University and The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After serving in the Marine Corps, I began pursuing the art of tattooing as a full-time career. I love horses and motorcycles. Japanese and American Traditional as well as black and grey realism are some of my favorite styles to tattoo.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road but it has been a fun one. I don’t think anyone’s path to becoming a tattoo artist is without obstacles. Seeking an apprenticeship can be a daunting task in itself. Also, tattooing was a different scene 15-20 years ago; although I enjoyed the challenge, it was not easy to get into or to find information. Google, YouTube, and social media weren’t available when I started tattooing, everything was word of mouth, you had to figure out a lot on your own. These struggles however built character, and enriched my journey. To be honest, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a tattoo artist. I specialize in large scale Japanese style tattoos. I am most proud of the people that I have worked with and the relationships that I have built along the way. My unique perspective on tattoo art, passion for knowledge, and desire to create is what sets me apart.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck as much as timing and preparation. Opportunities present themselves to you, not often more than once. You either will be ready for your moment or not. It’s not a matter of luck but hard work.
