Inspiring Conversations with Marcus Walter of Big Tymer Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Walter

Marcus, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had an ear and passion for good music. I grew up in a family of singers and musicians. My grandfather, mother and aunts were in a gospel group named “The Burgess Sisters”. Growing up in such a tight knit family there were always good times and good music. As I reached adulthood around 2013 I would DJ for family and friends using only a receiver, surround sound speakers and a cellphone. In 2016 I got my first official DJ gig for a wedding. I remember I had to borrow DJ equipment to do the event. After having a successful first gig, I gained several referrals for future events. In early 2017 I started investing top of the line in DJ equipment to perfect my DJing skills. I also reached out to a local, well respected DJ in my home town. DJ Magic, Andrew Clark. He took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. He played a major roll in helping me gain skills and knowledge as it relates to DJing. Now current day I have an extensive portfolio from DJing Corporate events, Wedding, Concerts, and Celebrity TV shows.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There has been challenges, especially during COVID-19. The unknown and sudden shutdown of the world caused many cancellations of booked events. During this time it was hard not to work within my gift and evolve in my passion for music. One day I decided to go live on social media and DJ for my friends, family and followers. It was a hit and somewhat gave me a sense of peace during a dark time.

As you know, we’re big fans of Big Tymer Entertainment. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Big Tymer Entertainment provides DJ and entertainment services. I go by “DJ Marcus” better known as the “Vibesetter”. I specialize is providing top tier DJ services. My passion for music allows me the ability to read the room and play hit after hit keeping guest entertained and dancing song after song. This is why I’m known as the “Vibesetter”. No matter the occasion I’m sure to set the VIBE! What sets me apart from others is passion. At least 4 days a week I’m in my DJ room at home studying my craft, studying music, what’s trending, and what’s new. I’m always willing to be a student of the craft and always willing to reinvent myself. What I’m most proud about regarding my brand is my ability to consistently provide quality and timely services over and over again. In addition to DJing I also provide the following services: Uplighting, Custom Monograms, Cold Sparks, and Dancing of the Cloud effects. Lastly I often partner with my wife to offer my clients Wedding Coordination Consulting and Services. Big Tymer Entertainment also travels.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I feel at some point in business everyone takes a risk, or think about taking a risk. I have personally been a risk taker. Having a family to provide for it’s always a risk to spend money on something outside of taking care of home. Many times I have taken a risk to invest in equipment not knowing if I would get a gig to offset the expense. Especially when building my inventory to where it is today. However having a supportive wife has been a huge help in this area.
