Rising Stars: Meet Monica Leaphart of West Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Leaphart

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a chronic people pleaser, I would often times put myself in positions that I knew didn’t serve me. My desire to be liked by men kept me in short term dating to phase which was ultimately to my detriment. I knew I had to make a change that started with loving myself first.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! In the beginning I questioned had I turned bitter and cold to the idea of love. Once I pushed through the discomfort I began to fall in love with the person I am and look forward to getting to know what she enjoyed outside of romantic connection. Men haded my message at first. They thought being “decentered” means they are somehow not valuable. It want until recently some of them have told me, they now understand. It’s not about discarded, it’s about not making decisions with male validation top of mind.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a dating coach that teaches women how to love themselves through the process of decentering men and romanticizing their lives. My proudest moment is when I developed the courage to actually start this journey. I get a lot of push back from men who would like to keep the status quo. However, women are beginning to wake up and see they are more than just wives and mothers. Me witnessing them see themselves as full autonomous beings first the first time, in a long time is a beautiful feeling.
