Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrone Speaks
Hi Tyrone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey has been one of purpose, dedication, and unwavering commitment to service. From an Army veteran, I graduated from Benedict College’s School of Business & Economics in Columbia, SC, obtained an MBA from Louisiana State University, and completed my mortuary education at Gupton-Jones College in Atlanta. I then transitioned into the funeral service industry—a career that inspired me from childhood. With years of hands-on experience and a passion for teaching, I’ve shared my expertise in embalming at national conventions, seminars, as an instructor at Gupton-Jones College, and even as a question writer for the rigorous National Board Exam. My deep respect for the deceased and empathy for the families they left led me to establish ProCare Mortuary Services, an embalming service supporting funeral homes with precision, care, and compassion. Now pursuing a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership, I’m blending academic excellence with practical experience, focusing on leadership that elevates standards within my industry. My mission extends to teaching respect “from the cot to the casket,” ensuring that every life I touch is honored with dignity and professionalism.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout my journey, I’ve faced significant personal struggles that have shaped who I am today. Losing my mother and sister only six months apart was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. Their passing gave me a deeper understanding of grief and loss, reinforcing my commitment to providing compassionate care to families experiencing similar heartbreak. These personal losses fueled my passion for the funeral service profession, reminding me every day why I chose this path—to ensure that every life is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. Their memory continues to inspire me in both my personal and professional life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about ProCare Mortuary Services?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories that inspired my career in the funeral service industry was spending Saturdays at the funeral home where my uncle worked. I was fascinated by the care and respect shown to those who had passed and knew I wanted to be a part of that meaningful work. Every Friday night, I would eagerly call my uncle and ask if I could go with him the next morning. He always said yes, and I’d wake up early, excited to learn as much as I could.
At the funeral home, I observed everything—from how services were arranged to how families were supported during difficult times. My uncle’s professionalism, compassion, and dedication left a lasting impression on me. Those Saturdays sparked a deep passion within me and set the foundation for my career. Looking back, I realize that those early experiences shaped my calling and inspired me to build a career centered on dignity, care, and service. Today, as the owner of ProCare, I carry those lessons with me, ensuring that every family and funeral home I serve receives the same respect and dedication I admired in my uncle.
