Today we’d like to introduce you to Elbert Godoy
Hi Elbert, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The loss of my mother Sylvia, in August, 2019 music became a very powerful tool for processing the grief and expressing my emotions, which led me to pursue my music career to honor my mother.
My mother was my rock and the motivation to keep on going. As an immigrant from Belize, I always loved music as far back as I can remember listening to Punta music which, is a mixture of Caribbean soca, Calypso, Reggae, Salsa, and Hip-Hop.
Hip-Hop played a huge impact on my life growing up in the East Tremont section of the Bronx on Morris Ave 179th Street, building 1993 the very same place where Hip-Hop Icon Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Melle Mel wrote “White Lines (Don’t Don’t Do It)” with Sylvia Robinson. The song, which warns against the dangers of cocaine, addiction, and drug smuggling, is one of Melle Mel’s signature tracks.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After losing mother, The COVID-19 Pandemic changed the world, crippling our industries.
In the earlier stages of the pandemic, I found myself using the unexpected extra time to be creative and more transparent on my social media pages to stay connected with family, friends, and fans.
Surprisingly, I actually gained more momentum with my music during the pandemic. Travel, was a huge obstacle, however, when invited to do interviews, performances, or open mics I got there no matter the size of the room or audience. Simply, showing up and rising to the occasion and performing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like about our city are the museums, nightlife, diverse neighborhoods, food, music, sports, booming economy, affordable housing and culture that makes Atlanta the number one destination for entertainment in the south.
What I like least about our city is the infrastructure, crime, traffic, potholes, and summer heat.
