Hi Monica , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I love and enjoy Atlanta Fashion Week. I am a travel makeup artist located in the Midwest but ATL is starting to feel like my second home. Fellow artists and fashion organizations have been so welcoming I find myself networking more often in ATL this year. Which is a huge deal for me!
My journey as travel makeup artist has not been easy. Especially coming from a very small down in the middle of nowhere USA.
I’ve had and still have challenges as an entrepreneur. I’ve had moments of self-doubt and obstacles that seemed insurmountable. Yet, I’ve learned to embrace failures as stepping stones to success, understanding that every setback was an opportunity to grow. With each experience, I consider myself a savvy entrepreneur, adapting in marketing my brand and connecting with clients.
Over the last 9 years my business has flourished. When I’m not in my beauty salon in Downtown Hastings, I travel for work, Ive had the opportunity to work in
New York, Miami, Paris, Toronto, and Punta Cana. I’ve collaborated with renowned photographers and models, proving that someone from a small town could make a significant impact in the beauty industry. Each trip was a testament to her hard work, resilience, and the belief that dreams could come true no matter where you are from.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. There are times I find myself with no motivation and even feeling lost. But that’s just how it is as an entrepreneur. We don’t clock in or clock out a traditional job. We create our dream job. Everyday we wake up and work hard to keep building our business and creating bridges to different opportunities.

Monica MUA Beauty is a Beauty Salon & Spa. I am also a Travel Makeup Artist.
My story has inspired hope for aspiring entrepreneurs, proving that with passion, perseverance, and a willingness to step outside one’s comfort zone, anything was possible. I share my journey through workshops and social media, encouraging young people to pursue their dreams regardless of their background.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
You have to have tough skin in life if you want to make your dreams a reality. Never compare yourself to others as that becomes a distraction and delays your wins! Work hard! Pray hard! Never give up!
