Life and Work with Malehah Hamlin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malehah Hamlin.

Malehah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a natural hairstylist located in midtown Atlanta. I started doing hair when I was 24! At first, it was just a hobby until I realized that it really relaxes me and I enjoyed doing it! I started off at a salon with little to no clients. I would pass out cards daily at the mall because Instagram wasn’t as popular yet. Fast forward and I now have my personal salon studio in midtown with an amazing clientele base and hair care line! I believe I got to where I am today by God first and foremost and hard work! I can’t forget about my clients because they are amazing!!! I love them so much!

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t! It’s a lot of days where I want to give up but my heart just won’t let me. Especially in the beginning when I could barely afford my booth rent! My advice to others will to never give up! Always stay focused! Don’t worry about everything else around you just focus and realize it doesn’t happen in a day and what you put in is what you get out! Also, to treat your clients right! Word of mouth is everything!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Eccentrix Hair – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in healthy hair care and non-tension extensions! I help my clients get their natural hair on the right track and growing! I use my own hair care line to take care of my client’s hair! I also specialize in non-tension extensions! I pride myself on giving my clients extensions that don’t hurt nor damage their hair in any way. I think what sets me apart from other stylist is that I actually care about my client’s hair like it was mine! I take pride in growing their hair!

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
To be honest, networking is my weak point because I’m very shy! I would say confidence! Having confidence is key! Just talking to people. They can either talk to you or not.
