Today we’d like to introduce you to Junior Ascanio
Hi Junior, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am an artist born in Venezuela in 1988. During my adolescence, I trained as a Recreational Leader for Vacation Camps and later began learning various circus disciplines, such as stilts, juggling, unicycling, magic, mime, and more.
Recreational Leader for Vacation Camps
In 2014, I was hired as a clown for Circo Mágico Rolan, a wonderful experience that was a dream come true. The following year, after several attempts, I became the National Children’s Magic Champion of Venezuela 2015, in a competition held at a magic convention.
In 2017, due to the situation in my country, I emigrated to the United States. Little by little, I started making a name for myself again in the entertainment world with my shows. In 2019, I had the opportunity to work with the Atlanta Braves, performing numerous shows at their stadium. In 2021, when the Braves won the World Series, I received a championship ring as part of the entertainment staff—possibly making me the only magician in history to win an MLB championship ring for performing shows (haha!).
In 2023, I played the lead role in a commercial that aired on TV. That commercial was nominated for the Emmys, and we later won in our category. It was a great victory, and I never imagined that upon arriving in this country, I would receive such a prestigious award.
Currently, I continue performing my shows and enjoying every moment on stage. And I will keep doing this… until my body can’t do it anymore.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Having to emigrate and leave the country I love so much due to political issues was extremely difficult. Starting over in a different country is not easy, especially with a climate so different from what I was used to. But the most painful part is being far from my family. Leaving my mother, sisters, and nephews was harder than I ever imagined. Saying goodbye to my grandparents, knowing it would be the last time I saw them, was really hard
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in events in general, as a magician at children’s events, but I offer services for all ages. However, magic is my favorite. Making children and adults laugh or surprise them makes me feel happy to have chosen the profession I chose.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t know. I don’t believe much in luck. I think that more than luck, goals are achieved with discipline and a lot of perseverance!!
