Today we’d like to introduce you to T’yanna Allen-Williams
Hi T’yanna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My first interest in media started when I was 13 because my grandmom Cookie would order the Teen Vogue magazines for me. I loved the pictures, themes, and the people who were featured. That drove me to visit Vogue’s website and look under their careers tab, which led to a long Google search. I started searching for each role to see how it aligned with my interests and what degree/steps I would need to get into it. After my search, everything led to public relations, which is why I chose it as my major at Clark Atlanta University. From PR, I have been able to work with companies such as Grind Pretty Magazine, Essence Girls United, Felicitea Digital Lab, and so much more. My long-term goal is to have my own creative agency with serves such areas as media relations, marketing, photography, and more.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a college student and aspiring publicist, there have definitely been some struggles. I do not have a car, and ATL is definitely a city where a car is necessary. There have been times when I wanted to attend an event or wanted to work, but I only had enough money to make it there. Like my university says, I’ll find a Way or I’ll Make One, which I always do, but it definitely is not easy all of the time. Also, I am learning as I go, so of course I have made mistakes. All in all, I am thankful for my community and the people around me who continuously support me no matter what.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a first-generation student at Clark Atlanta University from West Philadelphia studying Public Relations. I serve as the Vice President and Inaugural Miss PRSSA of the Public Relations Student Society of America at CAU. I serve as the Public Relations Chair for NABJ CAU and Marketing Director for the CAU Student Ambassadors. In these roles, I work to bring students together, provide opportunities for students post-graduation, and create content for organizational exposure. I am best known for my brand, “your fave PR girly,” which I started in 2024 to share my journey as a future public relations professional. What started off as a fun title for my personal content became a part of who I am and a title that many people associate with me. I am proud of many things I have done so far in my career. I dabble in everything, whether it’s in front of the camera or behind the scenes. I have worn the hat of photographer, creative director, model, publicist, HBCU advocate, social media manager, talent manager, event planner, and the list goes on. Three of my favorites are the Mass Media Arts Alumni Mixer, the Culture & Communications Conference, and the HBCU Tour. The MMA Alumni Mixer I had the pleasure of planning/hosting during Clark Atlanta University’s Homecoming week, brought networking to current students who were able to leave with mentors and internships. The next is the Culture & Communications PRSSA 2025 Southeast District Conference, which my organization, CAU PRSSA, has been working hard on since August 2024. We are the first HBCU to host a PRSSA conference, and of course, we had to include the importance of culture in the communications field. With everything going on in the country, it seems like media professionals need this conference now more than ever. Lastly, I want to highlight the Annual HBCU Tour hosted by the AUC Philly Club. I had the privilege to lead a full week of visiting high schools in Philadelphia to promote historically black institutions to the youth. I was also able to plan the first HBCU Experience in collaboration with Heights Philadelphia, where we brought HBCu culture to 300 high school students.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
You are only as strong as your community, and when they say it takes a village, it truly takes a village. Of course, I want to highlight my parents and family for pushing me through college. Not only have they made sure I could stay in school, but they also have continued to support all of my ventures. A special shout-out to my little sister Tyhira, who keeps me going and motivates me daily. I also have a host of friends, mentors, and professors who not only motivate me but support me in many ways. To everyone who has ever collaborated, sent me opportunities, or was a client, thank you. You all are here with me now and will continue to be apart of your fave PR girly’s story.
