Inspiring Conversations with Angela Wilbanks of Sunnie’s Bees

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Wilbanks.

Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Sideliner Beekeeper! My older brother introduced me to Honey bees, and I fell in love! I started in April 2021 as a hobby beekeeper and quickly grew. I currently run between 60-100 colonies, depending on the time of year. I am also licensed to remove bees from commercial and residential places. I love giving back to the community by educating children and adults about pollinators and how important they are to us! I attend local festivals and farmers markets selling products from the hive!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning to manage honey bees was a huge learning curve for me. I’ve been doing it for 4 years and I feel like I’ve just scratched the surface. No matter how much you study, at the end of the day they are bees and have a mind of their own. I have experienced some loss due to people spraying mosquito spray, it kills all pollinators! It is very devastating when it happens!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a slideliner beekeeper. I raise honeybees for honey production and beeswax. I use those product from the hive to sell at farmers markets and festivals around Georgia. I also have my produce in a few retail stores around my area. I donate my time to the community educating kids and adults about honeybees and the importance of pollination.

I am also licensed with the Department of Agriculture to do Honey bee removals from residential and commercial structures. I removed the bees and rehome them in a safe environment.

How do you think about luck?
Since I have become a beekeeper, I have never had anything fall into place like bee keeping has. All of the right doors have opened and the “right” people have been put in my path to make my journey such a positive one
