Inspiring Conversations with Sharon Hudgins of Destiny Educational Consulting, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Hudgins.

Hi Sharon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been in early childhood education for over 30 years, but my passion for education started long before that. I graduated from Spelman College, which laid the foundation for how I show up in the world—with purpose, pride, and a deep sense of responsibility to serve others. I didn’t plan on becoming an early educator at first, but once I stepped into the field, I realized it was exactly where I was meant to be.

I’ve worn many hats over the years—teacher, director, trainer, coach, consultant. Each role gave me a deeper understanding of what children, families, and providers truly need. I saw how overworked and undervalued early childhood professionals often are, and it lit a fire in me to be part of the solution.

In 2015, I launched Destiny Educational Consulting to provide real, practical support to early care and education professionals. Since then, I’ve trained, coached, and guided thousands of educators and programs nationwide. Along the way, I expanded my work to include personal development, retreats, book collaborations, and other experiences that support the whole person, not just their professional role. Because I’ve learned that when educators are healthy, confident, and supported, the ripple effect reaches every child and every classroom they touch.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. There were plenty of bumps along the way—financial stress, burnout, and moments where I seriously questioned if I was supposed to keep going. But the hardest season hit in 2014 when I lost my mother. Her death sent me into a deep depression that I didn’t even recognize at the time. What’s wild is that I kept showing up—I kept working, teaching, leading—but inside, I was going through the motions. I didn’t feel like myself. I didn’t feel much at all.

It took time, family support, and finally getting counseling to pull me out of that dark space. That experience taught me how easy it is to wear the mask and keep pushing while you’re falling apart inside. It gave me even more compassion for the people I serve, especially women who are used to carrying everything and everyone. That pain shaped my mission and reminded me that healing has to come first, even for the helpers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Destiny Educational Consulting is all about supporting early childhood professionals—plain and simple. We provide training, coaching, and technical assistance to help childcare providers, Head Start programs, and early learning centers improve quality and stay in compliance. But more than that, we focus on the people. Because programs don’t grow—people do.

What sets us apart is that we don’t just drop in, hand you a checklist, and leave. We work alongside you. Whether it’s through on-site coaching, hands-on training, virtual workshops, or self-paced courses, everything we offer is designed to be practical, real-world, and doable. We’re known for helping overwhelmed leaders and teachers find balance again without sacrificing quality or burning out in the process.

I’m most proud of how our brand has evolved. Destiny isn’t just about compliance and curriculum anymore—it’s about helping educators rediscover their passion, protect their peace, and grow personally and professionally. Everything we offer from CDA training to retreats, conferences, and even book collaborations is rooted in the belief that when educators thrive, children win.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Resilience. Hands down. I’ve had to bounce back from burnout, financial setbacks, personal loss, and moments when everything felt like too much. One of the hardest seasons came after my mother passed away in 2014. I slipped into a deep depression, but I didn’t recognize it at the time. I kept working, kept showing up—but I was completely disconnected from myself. It took the support of family, counseling, and my faith to help me come out on the other side.

That experience and so many others taught me how to get back up, even when I didn’t feel strong. Not because I had all the answers, but because I refused to quit. Over time, I’ve learned how to pivot, how to give myself grace, and how to take the lesson from every season, even the painful ones.

That resilience is what allows me to truly connect with the people I serve. I don’t speak from theory—I speak from experience. I know what it feels like to hit a wall, rock bottom, and I also know how to climb over it, out of it, and recover. That’s what makes the work I do real, relatable, and impactful. I’ve been where they are—and I’m proof that you can become stronger on the other side.
