Community Highlights: Meet Darryl Harris of Moods Music

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Harris.

Hi Darryl, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Moods Music was born in the year 2000. It was because of my love for music that Moods was born. I can remember as far back is being 8 or 9-10 maybe and gravitating toward Music. I knew once I got a little bit of older that I needed to be connected to it in some way. When I first started, Moods, there was a void in the city for the type of music that I want it to bring to the masses. I knew very early that if I were to do a music store, it had to be different. We at Moods specialized and underground soul, Hiphop, Jazz, and dance music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been pretty smooth from the very beginning. There was such a void at the time that I started Moods Music. I knew at that time being as big of a music lover as I was and having a hard time finding Music that I wasn’t the only one with that problem. So I put on my thinking Catt did my research and decided that I would be that vessel that bridge where people could find what they were looking for musically.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
This music is a specialized store for music. We specialize in underground soul, Hiphop jazz & dance music. Over the years we have become more of a lifestyle store. We now carry our own brand of T-shirts, music, books, HomeGoods, and plants. What set of support is that we cater to a niche market people come to us because they’re looking for things that they can’t find anywhere else. Independent music is one of the things that we take pride. We seek out what’s new and different. Given that underground, independent artist of voice where otherwise they would not have one.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Music makes me happy., but I’m happiest most when I can make or change a person‘s day or mood musically. I get joy from getting my customers to a better place musically it’s the main reason why I do what I do for a living it’s all about changing a person’s day
