Today we’d like to introduce you to 404FoundATL.
Hi 404FoundATL, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
404FoundATL is an independent artist collective rooted in Atlanta’s local art community. It all started in 2023 with a small show called Dreamscapes, born from a shared idea to create our own exhibitions in alternative spaces. Co-founded by Kat Stockton, Daniel Curran, Brittany Curran, and Larry Holland, the collective grew organically out of friendships, shared exhibitions, and community projects, including collaborations with the Decatur Arts Alliance through Holland’s involvement there.
We were inspired by Atlanta’s grassroots art movements, especially Free Art Friday, and we set out to build something collaborative, welcoming, and centered on artists. We’re also grateful to Binders Art Store, which generously provided a gallery space early on. Their support aligned with our mission and helped us offer artists a place that felt accessible and supportive. Thank you.
Our name reclaims the digital “404 Not Found” error and turns it into “404 Found,” reflecting both our Atlanta identity and our commitment to helping artists be seen, supported, and celebrated.
Through pop-up shows, we create space for artists of all experience levels to grow, experiment, and connect. At our core, we are a collective built by artists, for artists, contributing to Atlanta’s evolving art scene one show at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, yes, it has been a smooth road so far. That’s largely because we’re friends who enjoy working together and share mutual respect and creativity, qualities that carry over into how we collaborate today.
When it comes to organizing events, we naturally fall into roles that fit our strengths, and we communicate well. Of course, any grassroots effort has its challenges, but our trust in one another makes the process feel collaborative rather than stressful.
That said, organizing a large group of artists can feel like herding talented people who often do their best work under that last minute pressure. Procrastination tends to be part of the creative process, so we’ve learned to build in extra time, stay flexible, and adjust as needed.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At 404FoundATL, we are creating exhibitions that give space to Atlanta’s diverse creative voices. We’re a collective and pop up platform that brings together both emerging and established artists through group shows. We are proud to have featured work from over 80 local artists, many of whom were exhibiting in a gallery setting for the first time. Helping artists gain visibility and confidence is a big part of what drives us.
What sets us apart is that we’re artists first. Each of us has spent years immersed in Atlanta’s art scene, not as curators or gallerists, but as painters, collaborators, and community members. We’ve painted murals, led public art projects, hosted solo exhibitions, and supported each other long before we ever organized large group shows together.
We’re also friends who genuinely enjoy working with one another, and that energy shows up in everything we do. Our approach is hands on and shaped by our personal experiences. We’re creating something welcoming and artist driven, where people can experiment, connect, and grow.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
For us, one of the biggest risks was simply deciding to start. Organizing art shows, especially ones that involve other people’s work and time, comes with a lot of responsibility. We are also completely self-funded with no institutional support behind us, so every decision matters.
Since we’re building everything from the ground up, every show is a learning experience. Trying out new ideas and reimagining how art can be shared is part of what keeps us inspired. We’re always pushing ourselves to think differently and stay open to what’s possible in the future.
In the end, the risk is always worth it. The reward is creating something real, together, for our local art community.
