Conversations with Beth Littlefield, MD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Littlefield, MD.

Hi Beth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 61 year old physician with training in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. I practiced medicine in these fields for many years, but in 2013, I had the opportunity to be a Medical Director for a “start up” MedSpa company named dermani Medspa (registered trademark) I started out with little knowledge about the aesthetic industry, but quickly learned a tremendous amount about laser treatments, microneedling, dermaplaning and chemical peels, as well as Botox (registered trademark) and filler injections! Fast forward to 2025, dermani MedSpa (registered trademark) now has 30 locations throughout the United States, including 18 in the greater Atlanta area and I am Medical Director for 11 out of 18. As Medical Director, I write and manage protocols, handle complications which are, thankfully, minor and I am fortunate to get to teach a lot, which is my passion! Desiring to teach even more, in 2020, I became the founder and owner of The Injectable Academy, LLC (registered trademark) which is a training company that teaches registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physicians and dentists how to inject Botox and fillers for cosmetic purposes. In 5 years, Injectable Academy has expanded and now offers classes in Savannah and Nashville. We have trained over 900 students! We have over 100 5-star reviews and just love the incredible comments our students provide. Our introductory classes consist of didactic material and lots of hands-on training where our students inject live models so they can really learn real life skills for a career in aesthetic injectables. We are passionate about keeping our class size small (maximum of 16) so that we can give each student individualized attention to make sure they leave our course with confidence and great skills! And, for those students who have taken our basic course and desire more training, we’ve got that covered too with our “Next Step” course, which focuses on advanced techniques. I am honored and blessed to have the opportunity to teach wonderful students a wonderful new skill and look forward to many years to come!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge for Injectable Academy was that we “blazed a new trail” with this company. To our knowledge, no other aesthetic injectable company in the US had a format or curriculum that we could pattern after, so we had to develop our own “road map”. But I love challenges! It took almost a year of “brain storming” and planning before we opened our doors in 2020. (We planned to open in March 2020 but, due to Covid, we delayed until July 2020)

When our company first opened our doors, we had to work hard to find live models who desired to be injected with Botox (registered trademark) and/or fillers. But, word spread quickly that the results were excellent and the price to be a model is very, very reasonable. We now have over 300 models on our list for our Atlanta teaching location!

I have had personal challenges such as a cancer diagnosis in 2021 and I have been gone through divorce (mentioned below) but both have made me stronger and more resilient!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a physician having earned my Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1991.I then trained in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta from 1991 to 1995 and then started a career in emergency medicine and urgent care medicine. Then 12 years ago, I became a Medical Director of dermani Medspa (registered trademark) here in Atlanta (which I described more fully above).

In addition to being a Medical Director of 11 dermani MedSpa (registered trademark) locations in the greater Atlanta area, I consult with all of our Medical Directors which are spread throughout the United States. And, I founded and own The Injectable Academy LLC (registered trademark) (which I described above). I also teach a Laser course in Duluth once a month, which allows aestheticians, cosmetologists, nurses and physicians to earn certification that allows them to pursue a career as a laser practitioner throughout the state of Georgia. And, I work for Northside Hospital 2 – 3 days a week, fulfilling various physician roles.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up living in several states – Missouri, Illinois, Connecticut and Ohio – as my father had multiple transfers for his work. When I was 12, I moved to Ohio and stayed there for high school, college (Miami University) and medical school (University of Cincinnati College of Medicine). When I was in high school, my father was diagnosed with head and neck cancer and spent over a month in the intensive care unit and I spent a lot of time with him and my mother. His surgeon took me “under his wing” and spurred my interest in medicine! Thankfully, my father survived his cancer and was so proud the day I became a Medical Doctor!
After medical school, I moved to Atlanta to do a residency at Emory University – I fell in love with Atlanta and have stayed here since 1996.
I have three siblings, all older and two of which were off to college before I have any memories of them. Thankfully, they are all still with us today, living in Washington, New Mexico and Colorado. I have been married but am now divorced. I’m thankful for my marriage, as I have two wonderful children, ages 27 and 30. One lives in Atlanta and works for Delta and one lives in Washington, DC and works for CNN. I have two labradoodles and I enjoy golf, sailing, traveling, fitness and, most recently, I have taken up aviation and am pursuing my private pilot license! I hope to be flying to my Injectable Academy classes in Savannah and Nashville soon!
