Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Young.

Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been enamored with hair and beauty. All the many years I have been shopping at hair and beauty supplies, no one actually helped me. It is normal to have questions; however, it was odd to not be able to receive an experienced answer when I asked about hair and beauty supply products. I would always get plenty of “yeses” and encouraged to buy whatever I had. As I got older, I lived through my questions and got my own answers, which turned into experience. I have been wearing hair extensions and using beauty products for many years. In 2023, I got more into financial literacy, which inspired me to move toward my entrepreneurship journey of opening my own hair and beauty supply.
I actually partake in hair extensions and use the beauty products, so I felt this was a perfect opportunity to be a knowledgeable source for others. I am able to answer most questions and come up with the best solutions for my customer’s hair and beauty supply needs. I love helping customers that want to review how to do a hair extension method, moms with biracial children that are unsure what products to use, customers that are facing hair loss who wants to explore wearing wigs for the first time and many other situations. To be in a position where my customers can feel confident to ask me questions about hair and beauty products, has enriched my entrepreneurship journey. The definition of groovy is marvelous, wonderful, excellent, hip and trendy. Groovy Hair and Beauty Supply promotes enthusiasm for self-love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anytime you start a business from the ground up, there will always be obstacles. At first, I did not understand how much work it took to run a business to the standard I want it at. There is so much that goes into this line of business and there is no blueprint. Some examples include how to fill out tax forms, how to stand out on social media, and how to build a loyal customer base were just a few obstacles I had to overcome. This led me to design my own checklist to help others avoid the mistakes I made and provide a smoother route for them. I offer beauty supply owner training classes that have assisted multiple entrepreneurs open their own beauty supply store. The endurance of my work ethic for my beauty supply is what sets me apart from other entrepreneurs.

Groovy Hair and Beauty Supply was established in 2023 located just north of Atlanta in Woodstock, GA. We specialize in selling a variety of hair and beauty products including wigs, hair bundles, clip ins, tape ins, eyelash extensions, shea butter and more. What makes my hair and beauty supply different is I use the hair and beauty supply products, so customers can talk to me with ease. I can tell you the difference between a lace front and converti-cap wig and I can also recommend how many packs of braiding hair you will need for your Boho braids. We can discuss what curling cream would work best for your hair curl pattern as well as what shea butter I believe would help your eczema. I like to see myself as a part of my customers’ beauty journey, and I appreciate them shopping with me.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
It would have been nice to say that I had a mentor for my entrepreneurship journey, however, everything I learned was self-taught. Honestly, I would not have had it any other way. I would like to thank God and myself; we make a great team.
