Allison Moore shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Allison, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
(FYI: This Story is about Royal Highnies…not Allison Moore. Allison and LeighAnn Yates are co-founders of the company)
By far integrity. You can have all the energy and be the smartest person in the room, but what are you without moral principals or your word not meaning anything?
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The story began as a quest to create the perfect boxer short. We viewed it as locating the perfect home for the family jewels. It needed to be a custom home, handmade, including a spacious ballroom with full seating and a sturdy front entrance so that no one slips out unexpectedly. This home should be built with the finest 400 thread count Pima cotton with virtually no shrinkage (on our part).
So behold, we present to you the “Royal Highnies” the only place that deserves to house the family jewels.
Our family has been in the textile business in Flintstone, GA for generations. Twenty years ago, we discovered this wonderful, airy Pima cotton and knew it was truly special. With so many men in our family it seemed to be a perfect choice to pursue creating a great boxer short. A local manufacturer in Dayton, TN, made a thousand pairs for us that we shared with our friends and family. It became known that if you walked through our door or it was any holiday, you were getting a pair of fabulous white boxers. Everyone loved them and convinced us to start a business.
The next quest was to create a great name and packaging. The white boxers became “Royal Highnies”. In 2006, after much encouragement, founders and co-owners Allison Moore and LeighAnn Yates launched their trademarked brand. Our Highnies have grown to over 500 retailers in the US and abroad and our line has expanded to loungewear for the whole family.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Our parents
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
QUIT WORRYING! Worry does not empty tomorrow of its problems but empties today of its strengths and happiness. It’s easy to get caught up in anxieties about the future, but so much of what we fret over never even happens. Embrace the present moment, trust in your abilities, and remember that you are capable of handling whatever comes your way. Your resilience and inner strength are far greater than you realize.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
FAMILY! Period.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
We recently lost a very dear friend and his eulogy should be the life story everyone should strive for. It said, In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the homeless man under the bridge, the bus boy at the restaurant, an extra tip for the valet drivers, buy dinner for the person next to you a the bar and don’t forget to always leave great!
