Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Gallagher.
Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been a lifelong musician, well-versed in a wide variety styles and genres including classical, jazz, R&B, pop/rock, and others. After retiring from a successful career in business and marketing, I recently decided to pursue my passion for music and teaching on a full-time basis. This led me to create Encore Piano Studio in Roswell. Since opening the business in 2023, I have grown the studio to over twenty-five full time students. These represent all ages, from six to seventy-six.
Because of my diverse background, I can tailor the learning experience to meet the goals of any aspiring musician. Each student follows a customized program that builds on core fundamentals, leading to proficiency in their desired style. In this way, the experience remains fun as well as educational!
Located in Roswell, Encore serves communities north of Atlanta. In addition to my music credentials, I also hold an MBA in Marketing from Hofstra University and am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Piano Pedagogy at Georgia State University.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Mostly smooth, though it takes a great deal of effort to build a student base.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Encore Piano Studio?
I maintain a balance between rigor and fun. I stress that students learn the fundamentals, but I also make sure that they have ample opportunity to play music they enjoy. My personal mantra is the one should take their fun seriously.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Seeing students grow, both musically and in their broader context. Being able to teach is both a great privilege and responsibility. While it is likely most music students will not pursue careers in the field, the exposure to music and arst is essential to personal growth for anyone.
