Community Highlights: Meet Nico Watts of Notary Checkpoint

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico Watts.

Hi Nico, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first discovered the significance of cleanliness during my early childhood in Jackson, Mississippi. Growing up in a household of six, participating in our weekly chore rotation was more than just a way to keep the house in order, it was a lesson in responsibility, self-discipline, and gratitude for the space we called home. We were taught to view cleaning not as punishment, but as an act of praise, a way to honor what we had. This routine cultivated a deep joy for maintaining and respecting my environment; an appreciation that extended beyond home. Whether it was my desk at school, a shared dorm room in college, or even community spaces, I carried with me the understanding that cleanliness was a reflection of personal care, pride, and stewardship.

Fast forward to 2007 in Marietta, Georgia: My life was full. I was 25 years young, married, and a father of two, and like many in that stage of life, working day and night to support my young family was the protocol. With very little room for error and even less time to waste, every opportunity mattered. To supplement household income, my attention turned toward a familiar skill: cleaning. I became aware that a few of my elderly neighbors faced unique daily challenges and began offering weekly and bi-weekly custom cleaning services. Many of them were living alone, managing physical limitations, or simply overwhelmed by the upkeep of their homes. What began as a practical side hustle quickly evolved into a steady and loyal client base.

Then came a pivotal moment: one of my residential clients asked if I could clean their business office in Smyrna, GA. That single request opened the door to consistent janitorial cleaning work, and soon I was taking on contracts and subcontracts for small offices and facilities throughout Cobb County.
That steady growth and expanding opportunity laid the foundation for what would become Watts Pro-Clean, LLC, a professional janitorial and office cleaning service built on the same principles that shaped me early on. I still take pleasure in reviving and refreshing spaces, but what continues to make this work meaningful are the genuine connections and mutual trust shared with each client along the way.

Years later, in 2017, the seeds of Notary Checkpoint were planted. I was working in a corporate setting when my manager suggested I get my notary commission to support the company’s internal notarizations and to earn additional income. I followed through, got commissioned, and began offering notary services for the company. But the opportunity was short-lived. There was a sudden change in leadership and organizational restructuring, and I found myself at a crossroads; one that ultimately pushed me out of the corporate space entirely. Rather than return to a traditional job, I made the decision to go all in on what I had already been quietly building: professional office cleaning and mobile notary services. I took the knowledge, skills, and discipline I had gained over the years and began developing both brands on my own terms.

Today, Watts Pro-Clean and Notary Checkpoint, LLC are the result of perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to service leadership. I’m not here to reinvent the wheel. My aim is to bring fresh, practical solutions to areas within both industries that are frequently overlooked or underserved, with the intention of creating meaningful and lasting impact one opportunity at a time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I’ve had to navigate challenges that come with limited resources, shifting market demands, and the weight of wearing multiple hats. Early on, one of the biggest struggles was learning how to build systems while still in the thick of daily operations. There were moments of uncertainty, especially transitioning from corporate into full-time entrepreneurship, when I had to bet on myself without a safety net.

But those struggles taught me how to adapt, how to persevere and keep going even when the road wasn’t clear. Every challenge became a lesson in resourcefulness, discipline, and trust in my skills, my vision, and the community I serve. I don’t look at obstacles as setbacks anymore. They’re part of the process.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
